Matous Barta photographs weddings and elopement for engaged couples in Czech Republic and Prague.

My name is Matouš Bárta and I’m a wedding photographer. I have not been one ever since and I did not dream of becoming one when I was six. Nor did dream of becoming a dustman. The future lay ahead of me in the great unknown, and it was the right way. My dear father, just like almost everyone at that time, used to take and develop photographs in our bathroom. For me this ritual was an inseparable part of my childhood. Sometimes I would join my father in the red dusk and watch pictures appear under the magnifier, which used to belong to my grandfather. My dad used a Zenit E – it was light sealed with carpet tape and it had to be rewind with surgical precision in order to avoid breaking the film. I used to use the very same Zenit when I started taking pictures myself at the age of fifteen with the plan to study Photography in Brno and much earlier than that I have begun observing the world around me. Now I’m twice as old, married to a great, loving wife and have two children and two cats. And I make a living as a professional photographer. To me that was something absolutely inconceivable fifteen years ago. While at school, I read a lot and attempted writing short stories. I never, however, got in it deep enough so that I would be happy with the result. Only later I found out that I do not have to be a writer in order to tell stories. All those skills that I missed while writing, I already possessed. Just in a slightly different area. Just like one can master a foreign language by learning to think in it, in the same way, through all those years I’ve been looking at and perceiving images that surrounded me, I also learned to see the world in pictures. The composition, the timing, the structure of the photography reaches me somehow subconsciously. Every wedding is different and has its unique story to tell. Every place has its own spirit and every human being changes and spices up the atmosphere with their presence. When shooting, my mind is completely clear. I don’t know what will happen and what the location will look like, all I know that I'm in there, I’m a part of it and I shall catch it in the photos. The photos, despite being still and mute, (and perhaps because of that) have the ability to capture the atmosphere and story in a completely unique way. Where I am today is the result of my life journey. The fact that you are getting married is the result of yours. I will be delighted to put into practice all I have learned in my journey in order to tell your unique story. [Prague Wedding Photographer]

Prague wedding photography by Stepan Vrzala of Czech Republic

When I started university, I got a camera from my brother. I instantly fell in love with photography and within a year, I bought myself a "pro" camera and started shooting for a local fashion agency. It was a great job for a student and I learned so much about working with light and people, as well as all the editing, colors and composition. While I enjoyed the job I was aiming for a more photo journalistic approach in my shoots. Later, a friend called me and asked if I can shoot at a wedding. It was a life changing experience for me. I really enjoyed the shoot and later on I started to get calls from newlywed friends and friends of their friends... It was like an avalanche and I became fully immersed in the world of wedding photography. That was seven years ago. At the same time, I was deeply interested in yoga and zen and I was searching for the same approach in photography - creating a simple, clean and highly polished look, but still far away from overdone image alteration. I believe a good shot must stand on it's own and not on effects added in postproduction. Photojournalistic way of shooting works for me: I love to get the essence of the moment, to catch the magic of people’s interactions and emotions, as well as the atmosphere of the locations themselves. And I must admit I also love to hear my clients talk about how the images bring them back in time and make them re-live the best moments once again. I do not cover only weddings, I use my talent and experience to capture the beauty in life all around. I shoot people in love and their kids. I shoot portraits and I shoot bikes too. Don't laugh. Biking is a part of my life and naturally, I'm the one with a camera. Around the house or in Italy at the races, I shoot it. Actually, capturing racing bikers provided me a fantastic training to capture the peak of the moment. The other thing I deeply appreciate is architecture. I am glad for all the shoots for hi-end magazines, hotels and restaurants. Every new location brings in inspiration and I like to watch and study how the light changes the look and feel of the place. In a certain way, it affects my wedding photography too. I can quickly find the right spot and perspective to let the energy of the venue come alive in the shoot. It all just clicks. When not shooting, I spend most of my time with my friends and family, walking the dog in the forest and meadows. I read books, travel, visit art exhibitions, work on my bike and sometimes I visit my parents in the countryside and help them with the greenhouse. I bike, ski and swim. Life is good:) [Prague Wedding Photographer]

You really captures the spirit and the feeling of that day and gave us some everlasting memories. Every time we look at the pictures, those great memories come right back. We have received so many wonderful compliments that people often ask to hire you and sad to find out you are not in the US. The photo book you made for us was very special and of high quality. It showcased our wedding so well that it allowed us to share those special moments with our friends who were not there. It will certainly become a family treasure for years to come. We are so happy we hired you to photograph our wedding day. When we saw samples of your work on your website we were certain you could deliver what we wanted, but the actual results completely exceeded our expectations. We love the lighting, colours and framing in every photo. The candid shots during our wedding breakfast are wonderful, particularly during the speeches – they really take me back to those moments. We felt comfortable with you throughout the day and loved your ideas for a photo session roaming around Prague to make use of the stunning picturesque backgrounds. The city is so close to my heart and is captured forever as a main player of one of the most special days in my life. Speaking of special days – we gave birth to our beautiful daughter last November and would love to have you take some photos of her when we’re next in Prague! Keep up the good work. We will always recommend you to anyone who needs an approachable, competent, professional and fantastically talented photographer.

You are an excellent photographer and we are very happy that you was with us on our wedding day. During the pre-wedding shoot, we got to know you and your style of work better. You are very subtle in your way of working and your photos capture the atmosphere perfectly. On our wedding day, you captured details and moments we would have easily missed. On this very hectic day, you were really calm and supportive. Your photos are unique, authentic and capture the atmosphere really well. Looking through them always brings us back to that day. Words can't express how thrilled we are with your photos! You captured our day perfectly and the range of emotions that we experienced that day. Our friends and family also can't get enough of the pictures; we receive so many compliments on your beautiful work. Both of our parents display the photos all over their houses, and our grandparents, aunts and uncles have all requested copies. When we were choosing a photographer for our wedding, we really wanted someone whose work was artistic and unique; your portfolio not only met, but exceeded that requirement. Thank you, also, for being so wonderful to work with. We really enjoyed getting to know you over email prior to meeting you in person, and especially appreciated your willingness to listen to our thoughts and ideas. During our engagement session, we were so impressed that you were able to make us feel comfortable not only with you, but with being photographed. That's not easy to do for us, as we're both a little camera-shy. Thank you again for an amazing experience. We love to look at our wedding book and remember Prague and all the special moments from that week. If you're ever in NYC or in the New England area, we'd love to have you photograph our family - if we have kids at that time. :) There's no one that could do it better than you! Or, we could just visit Prague again and come to you. Either way, it would mean a lot to us to work with you again.

Hi Stepan, It's hard to express in words how unbelievable your photos were! You really were fantastic :) Thank you so much for being our wedding photographer. Throughout the process, from discussing ideas with you in the months of preparation to choosing photos for our album afterwards – you've been a pleasure to work with. While our wedding only lasted one day, we are so glad that we'll have your photographs to remember it by for the rest of our lives. You are such an artist, and you truly captured the essence and feeling of the day. We've received so many compliments from our family and friends on the photographs, and we honestly can't stop looking through the album you made us! Thanks again for being such a special part of our wedding. Josef and I were thinking that it might be nice to have an extra session with you on our first anniversary. It wouldn't have to be the exact day, but we thought it would be cool to have photos from you one year later. Let me know what you think :) Thanks again! Isabel
