2006 Fall Judges

Judges

  • The shallow depth of field and the saturated orange color make this detail shot stand above the others. If you're trying to show the ring, or rings, but it's in the context of another element like a butterfly landing on the bride's finger, you're in luck. It also helped that the lens used to isolate the insect made a mesh out of the background color which matched the monarch. That's seeing, skill, and luck.

    • Dreams of butterflies flitter through his dreams, accompanied by a few snorting rattles borne upon too many “sugar plums” lulling this grandfather/uncle/Aunt Mabel’s boyfriend from the Shady Oaks Retirement Center that you simply had to invite…and a sharp-eyed photographer shoots the frame more as gag than anything else. And then, drum roll please…it wins in an international wedding photojournalism competition. Damn the butterflies. Full speed ahead to the end of this infernal wedding.
