The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.
Random moments like these are simple yet mean so much to a bride and her friends. Taking this image wasn't meant to be artistic but yet received as a moment held dear to my clients. Dialing in my settings for a shot, a friend reached over and fixed a misplaced hair. That's when I knew it would be a great shot and took it. I felt like I captured the beauty of the getting ready and love for a bride and her last moments before getting married. It may have been her mother, but I don't remember. My face was smashed against the back of a camera.
- The simplicity of this photograph and the simplicity of the moment is great. You don't need to see the person doing the touching to know that they care for the bride. And, the off-center composition is a nice balance to the photo as well as the overall pastel color of the image.
