During the ceremony, the bride and groom stand together before the priest, smiling beneath an arch decorated with white tulle and flowers.
When I met with Gamze and Hakan, they were planning to have a “big fat wedding” with more than 500 guests, but then COVID-19 hit. Because of the pandemic, they wanted instead to have a very small ceremony with only close friends and family. Unfortunately, even some of the family members on their newly shortened guest list couldn’t join them because there were no flights. However, this couple wasn’t going to let anything stop them from being together, and the day was filled with joy and emotion.
They started the day at home with the preparations. The ceremony took place in the backyard followed by dinner and the cake cutting. It was a small, intimate, and cheerful celebration of love.
