Denny Simmons, who earned his bachelors degree in journalism at the University of Missouri, is a senior photojournalist and visuals content coach with the Evansville (Indiana) Courier & Press and The Gleaner (Henderson, Kentucky). His past positions include picture editor at the News-Sun in Waukegan, Illinois; picture editor at the St. Joseph (Missouri) News-Press, and photographer at the Jacksonville (Illinois) Journal-Courier. Simmons was named runner-up BOP POY in 2019, NPPA's Best of Photojournalism Photographer of the Year, Smaller Markets, in 2008. He has also been the Indiana Photographer of the Year three times and currently serves as the Indiana News Photographers Association president. Simmons has served the NPPA in multiple roles including national clip chair, Region 4 director and Region 7 magazine editor. He was awarded the title of College Photographer of the Year for work done in 1992.
