Cake Cutting

I always come back to looking for images that surprise me, and this one does. I mean, the knife, the expression? I love it, I'd love to have a print of this. It's just almost a little surreal. Great find in a normally very constructed environment.
The photographer captured great expressions in this unexpected moment where the layering has good information throughout the photo.

This has fraternity written all over it. I almost feel for the photographer who had to shoot this wedding, but that being said, it's a nice, peak, moment and one that is VERY surprising. I haven't seen someone's face shoved in the cake like that. While I find that childish, it's very humorous.
The photographer was definitely in the right place for this photo. Timing is everything sometimes and this photograph is a great example of that!
This is just a darn funny picture depicting boys being boys. A second sooner or a second later and the photographer would not have had the image, but this one is perfect.

What a funny, spontaneous image. GREAT expression on the surprised groom. Including only the hand as it smashes the cake into the groom’s face makes the groom’s expression jump out. Nice work.

For me, this is one of the best images of the contest. Great moment with the cake smashed on the pavement. The emotions of the bride and groom are almost palpable.

The photographer shot a beautiful moment of the bride’s expression as she hugs the groom after the cake cutting. It’s always nice to see different angles for some of the typical photo opportunities at a wedding.
The jubilant expression of the bride is accentuated by the use of a dramatic angle.

I love her expression in this picture, you can feel her anxiety. I also love it when contrasted against his lack of knowledge of her concern, it plays well against each other. One wonders if the cake, indeed, is about to fall over.

Composition, body language and lighting make this image work. Sophisticated use of angle, light and moment create this little homage to Brassai.

This is an entertaining moment with nice composition.

This image is a little hard to read, but it rises to it's position because of it's subtlety. I love her expression and him pointing the finger. It's a nice image that rings strong in the docmentary category, and it reveals a lot about the situation. The body language is key to this image and helps it override the fact that it's not a easy read. Great work.

Framing of the graceful statue at the left on the top of the cake makes a nice contrast to the couple smashing each other with cake in this photograph.
Most of the images like this one are similar. Cake in the face, laugh, move on. This one has a cool intersection of arms and body language suggesting a tennis match, back and forth, who’s gonna win?

It’s hard to go wrong with a bunch of inquisitive kids’ faces in a photograph. The photographer got down low on this photo to accentuate the faces. Tight focus throughout helps this image of anticipation, like “when am I gonna get my cake?”, flow.

This is a nuts and bolts kind of a photograph, one that is pretty straight-forward but yet it's very well executed and evokes a nice emotion. The left part of the frame is distracting but the subjects have such nice expressions, and I love the textures of the photograph. Typical? Yes, but nevertheless, well done.

The photographer captured a nice quiet moment that has an eloquent appeal graphically. It’s not the typical cake-smashing photo.

Nice moment captured. The composition adds to the frame bringing you into the groom's face.
