Getting Ready

Silly and graphic, Juarez’s photo froze a behind-the-scenes moment as a mom helped her daughter, the flower girl, into her dress. The image is full of clever contrasts—the tiny formal dress and the woman’s jeans, the headless subjects and their visible feet. You can almost hear the little girl shouting, “Mom! Get me out of here!” Looking like part puppeteer, part magician, this slice of life moment has humorous overtones and was well seen by the photographer. Another image in a very humorous vein, this great slice of life is well composed and well-captured.

The photographer has placed him/herself in the perfect position to capture everyone in the shot. The figures’ embrace creates a graphic element that leads the viewer from one subject to the next. Superb. It’s a tender and emotive moment shot to perfection. The photo captures their feelings about their upcoming union.

This photographer obviously has a keen sense of humor! People say that owners often resemble their dogs—apparently that holds true, even on their wedding day.

A tutu for a young princess! This adorable and stubborn little girl steals the moment. A multi-layered image that keeps the eye moving through the frame. There are several pictures within pictures to enjoy – a detail of the shoes and bridal veil in the foreground, a cherub lounging on a classic couch, the bridesmaids checking themselves in a full-length mirror. Zoomed in on each, all would be nice photographs on their own.

The off-balance horizon line is used successfully in this image to draw your attention to the subjects. The girl’s head is tilting upward to get a better view while he wears a priceless expression. This is a precious, playful moment with edgy composition. Beware of tilting the camera too often, but in this case it works. Cropping in from the right might reduce the distracting shadow.

The crop in this photo places the focus on all the details and accessories; the contrast between the classic black bow tie and the crisp white shirt creates a quintessential look for the groom. Very tightly shot, using just the critical components, this photo works in a minimalist way. The look of satisfaction on the cropped face, and the hands of the “bow-tier” are all that is needed to convey a humorous moment.

Forget diamonds—in this photo, dogs are a girl’s best friend! As the pair peers out the window in anticipation of the big day, the dog mimics the bride’s body language.

We don’t know what is more interesting about this photo—the boy in the foreground struggling with his button or the kid in the background sleeping in a tent indoors. This fascinating shot captures two versions of getting ready. A little man getting ready for the big day. The photo has an air of touching innocence.
