4th place in Emotion
The WPJA contest judges presented Angelo Governi, a Siena, Italy wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- This image reveals how a moment is little more than a narrative we provide through our own experiences. Why is this girl crying? Is she crying out of sadness, or nervousness, or joy? We can’t know the answer without a caption. But it doesn’t matter because we, the viewers, can read our own story into the image and fill in the blanks. And whether right or wrong, it still won’t matter because a moment is just that, a moment. At the least we should all be able to agree, as photographers or viewers, that this is a lovely photo.
