Dennis Viera is half of the internationally recognized, award-winning wedding photojournalism team of Viera Photographics. Based in Sonoma County, Dennis and his wife Jaime split their time shooting weddings close to home in beautiful Northern California and traveling nationwide, and abroad. Their business was born over 10 years ago on the remote South Island of New Zealand, precisely the same time they found out they were expecting their first child, Alex.
For Dennis, the photographic journey began in his hometown of Newport, Rhode Island the summer before graduating from high school, when he was awarded a lost camera from a part-time job he'd been working. From there, the passion for documenting life continued to evolve. Rapidly. Dennis began working for his college newspaper while attending the University of San Diego, learned the basics from the photo editor, and soon became his assistant while also managing the ads department and keeping the paper funded. He learned the basics of photojournalism and also how to set up more structured editorial and fashion shoots while processing film and scanning prints. Upon graduation, Dennis chose to forego an easy route to financial security and instead got a job at a small but incredible San Diego camera shop and darkroom. A little over a year passed when he was plucked from behind the counter and hired to run a commercial photography studio while also handling the events side of the business; all the while, continuing to learn by experimentations with all different combinations of cameras, lenses, and formats. This was at a time when digital was revolutionizing commercial photography studios and over his four-year period as manager, he led the transition from an all-film to an all-digital studio.
Photography is not and has never been a job for Dennis, it's a deeply rooted part of him. Dennis loves photographing people, life, landscapes, architecture...so, weddings provide him the opportunity to weave together everything he's ever learned or experienced to tell each client's story in a unique way. Dennis now lives on a 3 acre property 45 minutes north of San Francisco with his wife and son, along with 5 alpacas, 2 sheep, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 20 (or so) chickens, 30,000 honeybees, a hundred grapevines and a 2000 square foot garden. While it might seem like a lot to manage, it somehow works perfectly and the couple are happier than ever and it shows, through continually fresh work photographing a subject matter that could steer some photographers towards complacency.
When Dennis isn't shooting for a client or himself, he can be found hanging out with his son Alex and his wife Jaime, snowboarding, hiking, fishing, buying records, listening to music, baking bread, making wine, keeping all our plants and animals happy and trying to be the best husband/dad/son/human being possible.

Using you guys was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. From our first conversation, we could tell you were friendly, easygoing people who just like to take great pictures and make your clients happy. You took the time getting to know us and our relationship so you could give us exactly what we wanted. On our wedding day you were flexible, fun, and extremely easy to work with; not that we ever had any doubts, but the pictures came out ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. We were thrilled with all the pictures...and happy to have two new friends. We love you and recommend you wholeheartedly!!!

Just a note of thanks for being willing & able to capture my sister's wedding last month. From the moment you guys pulled up in the Smog Shoppe parking lot we knew that we had "found" some really cool winners to capture the day. Our entire family fell in love with all of you! (As witnessed by all the shots of Jaime and Dennis that my Mom had on her camera at the end of the night! =) ) Don't worry Dennis - she never got a shot of you without your camera in front of your face =). We are all looking forward to celebrating again with you on Dennis' birthday this year! Haha. My sister and Josh had, as they said, the "perfect day" and you all were very much a part of making that happen. So thank you! Thank you for being the 'dream photographers' that my sister has always wanted. Thank you for humoring our Mom, for standing in the middle of traffic to get that perfect group shot, for just being so darned awesome =) You guys rock - Aimee (Sister of the Bride & Maid of Honor),

Hi guys - we are in LOVE with these! We could not possibly have asked for anything more...you were so amazing to work with and our photographs were by far, the part of our wedding we were most looking forward to cherishing. We always expected amazing pictures; but this is so much more! You captured everything we were feeling that day and you did so with such beauty, aesthetic and style! Thank you again for helping us remember our special day with such creativity and artistry! XOXO
