Ruthie’s roots are in photojournalism and art. She received a scholarship to attend Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, where she majored in photography and minored in drawing. She interned at the Irish Times Newspaper in Dublin, Ireland. Upon graduation, she launched her photography business and in 2006, was hired as a Staff Photographer by Sun-Times Media. There she worked for almost 7 years covering memorable events such as the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2008 Olympic Trials for Track and Field in Eugene, Oregon, and Paul McCartney at Wrigley Field. During her tenure at Sun-Times Media, she earned 18 State and National Photojournalism awards. In the summer of 2012, Ruthie and her husband welcomed their first child, and she made the decision to give up her staff position to focus on her business and her new role as Mom. Ruthie and her husband now have two young sons and a huge cat. They try to live simply and enjoy outdoor recreation, live music, a good glass of wine and travel. In 2017, Ruthie and her family relocated from the Chicago area to Madison, WI.
Before a long day of photography Ruthie's pre-game ritual includes 8+ hours of sleep, a burger, a playlist of Hall & Oates, and an iced white chocolate mocha. On assignment, Ruthie is usually doing whatever is necessary to get the best possible photo, whether it be sloshing through a ditch, balancing on the roof of a skyscraper, flying in a blimp or standing in a bathtub. She loves EVERY minute of it.
Ruthie's goal is to go above and beyond for her clients while also capturing as much personality, life and storytelling in her images as possible.

We are speechless!! These [photos] are so so so amazing!!! We can't wait to look through them again and again. Everything is so beautiful, and we are so thrilled with how all of the photos turned out. You were absolutely, by far, our favorite vendor to work with, and honestly, one of our very favorite parts of our wedding. Thank you just doesn't do how we feel justice. From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate not only the beautiful photos, but your kind, generous, and hilarious spirit, the chats, advice, help navigating our day, and so much more. We are certainly recommending you to everyone we know and hope that we can continue to work with you as our family grows.

These images are all beautiful and capture the day so well!! We are thrilled. You were an absolute pleasure to work with and made the day so easy. As someone who doesn't love getting her picture taken and who has gone through some frustrating wedding photo sessions as a bridesmaid, I can't say enough how painless, and even fun, it was to work with you. Our families, too, couldn't stop raving about how smoothly the photo process went and what professionals you were. Thank you so much for everything.

Thank you for making our wedding so memorable, fun, and incredible. These photos brought back all the "feels". I was more emotional looking back at these photos than on the actual day. I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for us. I feel like you have been a part of our family through such an important part of our lives and cannot thank you enough for that. I have had so many people ask me for your information because they loved you and thought you were "more than a photographer," which you were. Your work means the world to us and I really hope you know that.
