Romulo Morishita

Ueda Photography of Madison WI

My experience with photography starts with a six-year-old boy holding up lights for his dad at a party. When we arrive home, my dad gives me his state-of-the-art Hasseblad camera's detachable back and teaches me to rewind the film. For me it was all fun, but what I didn't realize is that with my father's instructions, he was preparing me for my own future profession.

I went to photography school at Focus in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the age of 16. And now, thousands of weddings, events, studio shots, aerial photos, and family photos later, this is still what I do and what I love.

Ueda (pronounced "WAY-da") is the name my father chose to be his when he started his business as a Japanese man in Brazil over 50 years ago, and I am carrying it on now as a Brazilian man in the United States.

My style is wedding photojournalism. I enjoy the art of photography which lies in capturing the perfect moment when something beautiful is expressed: an emotion, a relationship, an idea.

Please accept my apology for this long overdue review! It has been about 15 months since my wedding and I am still so grateful for your work not only as a talented wedding photographer but also as an artist with a very warm heart. You have shown a genuine interest in our stories and you captured our wedding day just as we had envisioned. You were very passionate about learning about us inside and out; I am not sure if many wedding photographers actually do that willingly and sincerely. Your passion to understand each couple in order to bring out their best on their very special day makes you a real photojournalist. I looked up the definition of "photojournalism" and I would like to borrow this paragraph from Wikipedia to help others (e.g. future clients) to fully appreciate your work: "photojournalism is distinguished from other close branches of photography by complying with a rigid ethical framework which demands that the work is both honest and impartial whilst telling the story in strictly journalistic terms". Yet, your work adds a great sense of personality and an impeccable choice of details within each framework, turning those photos into a great memoir for the couple. Me and my husband enjoyed working with you and getting to know you as a person, we hope to run into you again in the future!

Hi Romulo, Steph and I really enjoyed your work. Planning was easy, even though we were a couple of hours apart - you were very easy to get in touch with. At the wedding, we loved all the candid pictures - we thought they really captured the day well! We thought you were very discreet, especially at the church - which really made the ceremony feel special. It was so nice of you to stay later to wait for the first dance also. I think that really summed up the night - you stayed over your committed time, even though you had a two hour drive home! Great job Romulo! We will absolutely recommend you to our friends! Thanks again!

Romulo! First, I apologize for waiting 5 months to write your review. Your work is amazing. A year ago, when we began looking into hiring a photographer to shoot our wedding, I was fairly critical. Being a photographer myself, I really wanted someone who would capture the moment as I would, and you did just that. I didn't want to hire some overly-traditional wedding photographer with no vision or creative imagination, because, to be honest, that's how most wedding portfolios look to me.. However, you are exactly the opposite. Your creative use of framing, aperture control, bokeh, and subject timing are invaluable and refreshingly artistic. You demonstrate a touch of photojournalism and new-age creativity to your photos that sets your style apart from the rest. We really appreciate the work that you did at our wedding. You arrived early, stayed over an hour late, and we gave you zero information or direction prior to the wedding, and you still managed to captured it perfectly. You are a master of your art and a true talent. And to top it all off, your photos got our wedding featured in Madison's 2013 wedding planners guide! Anyways, I can't say thank you enough for your work you did at our wedding. You are a true asset to the photography community.

Romulo, We are so happy that we selected you as our wedding photographer. The photos turned out exceptionally well and you were able to capture a great combination of intimate, fun, and candid moments. We're really pleased with the balance of the "traditional" organized photos and the spontaneous shots that exhibit your photojournalistic style. Looking at the pictures is like reliving the best parts of the day. Beyond being an amiable person to work with, you are also extremely professional, punctual, and relaxed. Your suggestions were always spot-on and resulted in some very beautiful and artistic photographs. We can't wait to share them with our friends and family! Valerie and Kai

When I saw our wedding album come up, quite the feeling came over me. It was almost like reliving the wedding day all over again. The colors are so vivid and beautiful, we all look so great, your composition is unique and appealing, the textures are so clear it makes me remember our wedding day down to the last detail. I highly recommend brides planning their weddings to go with a professional photographer, but really, I hope they choose you. You also looked great the day of, were never "in the way", never rude or demanding, just helpful and kind They are incredibly beautiful, and true works of art!! Thank you for everything. You were such a great person to have take our wedding every way!! ♥

Romulo, thank you for capturing the emotion of not only my husband and I, but our guests. You truly captured every moment of our day from first curl to a party that never wanted to end. Thank you for keeping that camera ready to find the perfect angle to make all of us look our best. You were professional, easy to work with and fast. You provided more more than we were contracted for over and over again. Thank you for twice as many pictures than you promised, staying late and having our images back to us with full rights in TWO WEEKS!! Thank you for catching every second on film of our special day.
