NEW ENGLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Documentary wedding photographer with journalism background

I've been making pictures since 2006. My passion led to the Photojournalism program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I've had a unique journey through the professional photographic world, from staff and freelance work for news outlets and colleges, to assisting and production roles on commercial, documentary and editorial projects. Some of the stops along the way include The Daily Hampshire Gazette, Bates College, The New York Stock Exchange, The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus, and Magnum Photos. I enjoy photographing nature and the night sky, too, in addition to personal projects. I've basically always got a camera with me.

My approach for wedding coverage is simple. I'll step in and give direction when it's needed for portraits or family pictures, but otherwise I am there to capture your day authentically. I settle in to the space with you and react to the wide range of emotions & energy throughout the day. It's entirely up to you how much time is spent on formal photos, but I do my best to make that time low-stress and efficient--so you can get back to being with your favorite people to celebrate. I firmly believe the images in my portfolio are only possible because of the foundation laid by this approach. I pride myself on being flexible and a balance to, rather than the source of, any stresses along the way.

The majority of what I deliver will be candid photos, but I will always sprinkle in some creative portraiture throughout the day. Everybody has a different story to tell, and for me that is an exciting challenge to meet. Whether you have a 200 guest, ski resort extravaganza, or you and your 25 favorite people in your backyard, my approach is the same: respond genuinely to the energy of the people & the day, and help keep folks at ease to do my best documentary style coverage.

Josh’s client testimonials page on his own website gives a strong sense of how he works with couples on a wedding day. Clients describe his calm presence, clear communication, and ability to stay unobtrusive while still being in the right place for candid moments. The page is a useful example of the documentary, journalistic approach he brings to weddings, where authenticity and ease matter as much as the final images.
