Newcastle, UK North East Wedding Photography by Erika Tanith

I love photographing people's stories; the real and the honest. Capturing life in all its glory is what photography is all about for me. We all have our own unique lives and being able to catch a glimpse of that - especially on a day as important as your wedding day - is one of the many wonderful things about what I do. I studied Media at university with a view to working in film. Movies are all about stories and that appealed to me. I never did break into the industry though; something far more magical caught my eye. Many of the skills and techniques I learned in film have been transferred into my wedding reportage work, and I like to think that my imagery has a certain cinematic feel to it. One of my friends got married straight out of university, and they asked me to shoot their wedding because they loved my movie work so much. I was familiar with stills photography as my father had always been a keen amateur, so I gave it a go and I fell in love. That was back in 2004, and since then I have fallen in love with wedding photography again and again. I love to travel and I'm happy to travel anywhere in the world to shoot a wedding. When I am not editing, meeting couples or photographing weddings I enjoy watching sport, travelling and spending time with friends and family. I am a keen runner and have ran two marathons for charity. Originally from Wales, I have travelled the world and have also lived in America and Australia. I returned to the UK in 2013 and have been living in Lancashire ever since. I truly love my job, and I am lucky enough to photograph some fantastic weddings throughout the North West and the UK. While some people live for the hustle and bustle of a big wedding with extravagant décor and an impossibly long guest list, others find these kinds of weddings to be too much hoopla, preferring instead something simpler and quieter, allowing for more intimacy between them and their fiancés on this special day. So how do you infuse your wedding with all the romance but none of the fuss? ALONE AT LAST Many couples these days are opting to elope rather than planning a large wedding. For the no-...Read more
We all know that the economy can go through some hard times, and be somewhat reminiscent of past recessions. However, as people cut back on non-essential little luxuries here and there, one constant remains: weddings. People don’t tend to just stop getting married due to a poor economy, nor should they! So, in an industry that keeps on going through thick and thin, what are some things to expect for the future, and what is really necessary to still make that wedding day memorable and...Read more

Some couples, as they begin planning for their weddings, might think that they are limited to the classic locations: churches, gardens, beaches, or even Las Vegas. But in doing so they’re missing out on a multitude of unique options that might suit their personalities much better! Why limit yourself to a quiet, quaint ceremony when your adventurous heart may be calling out for something more? An entirely different genre of wedding, so to speak, is the adventure wedding elopement. This concept...Read more

Everyone always says that your wedding day is all about you. But let’s face it; that’s not always actually the case. Many couples stress over guest lists, planning, expenses, and all the frills and traditions of your standard large wedding that they may or may not even be interested in. Fortunately, though, the concept of small weddings is becoming increasingly popular for couples who either want to be able to completely customize their day where and when they want with the option...Read more
While some of us were fortunate enough to be born as extroverts, not everyone feels the same way. For a good chunk of the population, any number of the typical wedding day traditions can inspire anxiety and existential dread. This day is all about you, yes, but does that mean all the attention has to be on you as well? FROM VOWS TO CHITCHAT, WHICH REMAINS SACRED? Traditional weddings often require some degree of performance on the part of the couple, whether that is in the form of reciting...Read more
Traditionally speaking, often times it is the couple’s families who help pay for their wedding. However, unfortunately that’s just not possible for everyone, especially these days when the cost of weddings can quickly and easily get out of control. Some couples find themselves in the position of paying for all of their own wedding expenses, which can be quite the financial burden to take on, and about 40% of Millennials end up in this boat. So, how can you stick to your allotted...Read more

Wedding Photography of a beautiful couple just married at the Laing Art Gallery

Laura & Matt

Hi Erika. Now that the dust has settled, I wanted to take the time to write to you and thank you for the enormous role you played on our wedding day. Words don’t seem to quite cover how we feel, but I will give it a go! We weren’t sure what to expect when booking a photographer- we both hated the idea of having a camera shoved in our face all day, posing and saying cheese. As you know, this is why we chose you and felt confident with your refreshing view to photography after we met for the first time. On the day, you were totally true to your word. You managed to capture it all, with great professionalism but unobtrusively. But for me personally, I want to say that I am so grateful for the support you showed me throughout. You kept me calm and helped me get the most from the day. I know, from the few images you showed us on the day, that I will (for once in my life!) like pictures of myself because you have captured our personality more than just how we look. Erika- quite honestly, you were a guest at our wedding first and photographer second. You were a fantastic asset to us and everything you did to look after us both during the day was so greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much. Our family and friends commented on you lots also and they totally echo our sentiments. So yeah....I think it’s important to say all these things to you, because yes- we have paid for a service. But what we got in return was an amazing extra wedding guest, a great friend and a fantastic support. Thank you
