Embracing Visual Storytelling Through Photography

Nic first studied photography back in the year 2000 at university, spending many happy days in the dark room developing film and immersing herself in the work of documentary photographers such as Martin Parr. She has an extensive background in design and art direction and spent many years specialising in visual storytelling.

Nic loves to meet people of all ages. When she was little, her mum was a mobile hairdresser and together they travelled around the village in the holidays with a bag full of rollers and sprays. Nic kept the clients entertained with stories, she never stopped talking apparently, or drawing and painting things for anyone who would take them!

It’s this sense of photography, as ‘storytelling’ that lies at the heart of Nic's approach as she strives to make real photographs of loved ones, families, and friendships that are filled with narrative and meaning.

When she's not making pictures Nic is usually on the school run, crafting things out of cardboard or running, She loves to get outdoors – It’s where most of her hair-brained ideas come from.

Nic Shuttleworth is a family and wedding photographer and art director, known for her documentary-style approach across the UK.
