9 Documentary Wedding Photographers...

United Kingdom based wedding reportage photographer Corina Oghina is from England, London.

Hi, I'm Corina: candid and fun Brighton wedding photographer adventuring all over the world! I've always had a soft spot for photography and felt drawn towards it. As a kid, I used to dig up my grandmother's shoebox full of old photographs. I would stare for hours at photos of people and relatives I never met, trying to build a story around them. What were they like? How was their life? Where would they spend their time? With whom? This curiosity made me realise I have a passion for people and their stories. I had photography as a hobby for 10 years, doing mostly portraits and street photography. When I started my work as a full-time wedding photographer one year ago, I knew exactly what I wanted: to capture comprehensive life stories that will be meaningful over years to come. My work is all about capturing a crazy mixture of feelings, emotions and moments that come once in a lifetime. Through my documentary approach, I get to show them as true and raw as they come: tears of laughter, sincere hugs, little gestures that define us or spicy dance moves. Simon Fazackarley Wedding Photographer for United Kingdom, England and East Sussex

I've been a wedding photographer for 14 years and have covered more than 400 weddings. I love documenting weddings and telling stories with my images. I'm a relaxed kind of guy and I think that really shines through in my photography style. I love the thrill of weddings - the challenges associated with the day, the need to balance creativity with the duty to my couples, the opportunity to work alongside my couples to create something truly important to them. I've always been creative and am passionate about design - In fact, I was working as a graphic designer when the opportunity to shoot my first wedding came along - I had a love for photography, but being a photographer had never occurred to me, certainly not a wedding photographer, given my introverted nature! A friend asked me to photograph his wedding, I loved it. A shy 17-year-old amongst hundreds of people, with my camera as my only 'defence' - it was out of character for sure, but It was amazing and I was hooked. That wedding led onto another, which led onto another - until a few years had passed and I realised I'd found something I loved. I moved away from design to set up my own wedding photography studio. That was 14 years ago. Now I work alongside my partner, who offers wedding films - and we cover around 25 weddings a year. I say I fell into weddings, but I think the truth is, I just found what I love! [East Sussex Wedding Photographer]

West Sussex wedding reportage photography by Annamarie Stepney, of England

Hello! Firstly I hate writing bios - photos are definitely more my thing! Where to start? Well, I'd love to say that I was always 'arty' and never without a camera at my side growing up, but the fact is that just simply isn't how it all began for me. I was never very good 'at art' at school growing up. I always wanted to be. I was creative in the sense of making clothes and gifts for family/friends...but never 'did art' per se. Luckily, in later life I found in photography a medium through which I could express my inner desire to create and more importantly (to me), to document moments to preserve memories. I love photographing life. Not just the obvious big moments, but also the beauty in the seemingly mundane. As such my camera is never very far away from me. My inspiration is my tribe - my lovely little family and best friends - the ones with whom this journey through life would be quite a lot less enjoyable! I live in West Sussex, and can mostly be found either by the sea or photographing all things joyous in and around the South-East. [West Sussex Wedding Photographer]

Kent, UK Wedding Photography by Catherine Hill for England

My love of photography began when I was as a child, now years later we are able to while away snatched nostalgic time as memories of those family gatherings, warm summery days on the beach, school days, birthdays and celebrations, precious times spent with grandparents on the family farm in Jersey and significant people in our lives, come flooding back. When I became a parent I documented my son’s transformation from a newborn baby into adulthood – beginning with the day we brought him home from the hospital, that first mouthful of solids (!), the first day of infant school, secondary school, the first job…. proud and memorable moments. I’m a Leo and perhaps a little sentimental, but I’m fascinated by the power of photography to transport one back in time. My other passions in life include spending time with my family, friends, good food – both cooking and eating!, gardening and film – be it curling up on the sofa to watch a good film or a regular trip to The Curzon. Kent England, UK wedding reportage photographer Michael Jackson - Jackson & Co Photography

Hi there, I'm Michael, the lead photographer at Jackson & Co Photography. I'm drawn to light and colour, humour and emotion, elements that can be found in abundance at UK weddings. This career found me during a time in my life when creativity was completely absent and this joy of photography just wrestled it's way into my life and refused to let go. Since then, Jackson & Co Photography has blossomed and we've been a part of hundreds of weddings, met thousands of people and had countless moments that have made us smile and stuck in our memories forever. There will inevitably be photographers out there who can write more eloquently, who have more artistic motivations, but for me, I'm a simple creature. Give me a camera in my hand, an environment that buzzes and hums with energy and the freedom to create and I'll be endlessly happy. [Kent Wedding Photographer]

Matt Ebbage is a wedding reportage documentary photographer in UK, England and Kent.

Hi, I'm Matt...and I have the best job in the world! I started shooting weddings in 2010 and I love having the opportunity and creative freedom to tell a wedding day story through emotion. I know it sounds super-cheesy, but I do see my job as being a storyteller and I really enjoy capturing a collection of images that really reflect my couples' personality. In my view, a wedding day shouldn't be condensed into a selection of posed and 'controlled' pictures, it should be a lovely, flowing account of all those spontaneous moments that happen throughout the day. Let's face it, those are the one's you're going to print and frame, and they're the one's that will make you smile for years to come. Right from my first wedding, I was very drawn to capturing those lovely candid moments between people, so my joining the Wedding Photojournalist Association felt like a natural step, and one that I'm very proud to have taken. Plus, I am constantly inspired by the work of my colleagues and am always seeking out new and alternative ways to capture and display emotion and love. A wise man once said to me: Moment, Light & Composition - if you can get two out of three, you're doing good...if you get the trifecta, you've smashed it! Needless to say...I'm always striving for the full house. [Kent Wedding Photographer]

The reportage wedding photography of London's Ben Pipe

Photography - its what I love, whether its photographing a wedding, a Himalayan mountain range or a carnival. If you like the look of my work then get in touch, and lets talk about your big day. I specialise in reportage wedding photography but if you'd like a few posed shots I'm happy to help, I also love shooting around the golden hour and am currently working on a twilight project - in which I take couples out for a lit portrait as darkness falls. I came into photography through my uncle who is a professional Landscape photographer, seeing his posters on the walls at home inspired me to pick up a camera and start seeing the world through a lens. I studied Photography at School, College and then University where I graduated with a 1st Class degree in the subject, and I've been doing it for a living ever since. My photography has been published around the world by National Geographic, The Times, The Guardian, The Independent and many more. [London Wedding Photographer]

Rik Pennington is a London based UK wedding reportage photojournalist.

Weddings are about the relationships and moments that happen between people and for a photographer they are the perfect opportunity to create a narrative from what happens throughout the day. With a background in graphic design, I love creating order within my frames from the fast moving events at a wedding, telling the story honestly and creatively. A lot of contemporary wedding photographers cite their influences from the world of documentary or street photography and I'm no different as these genres are generally about the relationships between people, so it translates well into today's wedding photography and what modern couples want. I've been shooting weddings since 2008, and I can honestly say that my enthusiasm grows each year with the challenges ahead. I'm based in London and shoot throughout the UK as well as destination weddings world wide. [London Wedding Photographer]

Katarina Nichol wedding photography London

Since a young age, I was taking randomly portrait and landscape photographs at first, and later on, when I developed into a professional photographer naturally I was asked to photograph my first wedding years ago. At that moment I was amazed by the explosion of all emotions you can experience at one day altogether! Over the years of photographing weddings, I developed my personal style and taste. After trying different approaches to wedding photography, I fell in love with documenting weddings. I just love all those unexpected and special moments that can be captured and turned into memories - usually they do not repeat. I also became a strong believer you should enjoy your wedding day and this is what also made me become a documentary-style wedding photographer. What gives me the passion to photograph weddings? The answer is every wedding is unique and I always have a chance to learn about different cultures and traditions. I see myself as a relaxed and respectful wedding photographer. Show Shutter Wedding Day Photography - Groom dancing at the wedding reception with some blur
Dragging the shutter is a basic photographic technique that is often put to highly creative use by the best wedding photojournalists. Whether depicting the bride mid-whir during a dance, or documenting a child bounding down the aisle at the church, dragging the shutter helps produce images that contain a sense of motion and bring an added dose of festivity to what, for some, already feels like a whirlwind day. When photographers “drag” the shutter by slowing down its speed, they...Read more

You photographed our summer wedding in Surrey and were a calm and assured influence on the day. We came away with beautiful photographs. We liked them so much that we made a hardback book out of them.

What can we say! From start to finish, you gave us the most amazing service!! We were both so nervous and you completely put us at ease. It was amazing to have you as part of our day and it shows in the photos how much fun everyone had having their photos taken by you. You went above and beyond providing us the most amazing photos, far better than we ever imagined and now we can't stop looking at them! I want to do it all again. We are so unbelievably thankful and can't recommend you highly enough! You truly captured every single moment of our day! Can we do it again? Pretty please? x

Working with you was fantastic - you are very professional, whilst still being very approachable and great fun. Your photos of our wedding in Weymouth last October are absolutely stunning and everything we'd hoped for and more. We opted for the top tier package and we're really glad we did - made things so much easier and less stressful on the day - not having to worry about if you captured everything (since you brought along a 2nd photographer) and you were there until the wee hours too. Before the wedding day we met up with you over a few pints and explained our hopes & ideas for the day which you took on board and wove into your own style. What was captured was all the beautiful little natural moments that we wanted, plus all the big formal photos too. Couldn't have asked for more! You also attended the wedding in a great suit, so blended right in and didn't make anyone feel awkward or intruded upon. So glad we picked you for our photos that'll be hung on our walls, and our family's walls for many many years to come smile emoticon

You shot our Dorset wedding back in September and I have to say from start to finish you was a pleasure to work with the pictures have come out better than we could have wished for. We opted for the second shooter (Chris) option and they worked superbly as a team. All of our guests commented on what a great duo they were! Thanks Ben for giving us such great photos to remind us of our special day! Mr & Mrs Dawson

We really enjoyed working with you back in August 2014, you took the time in getting to know us and what we wanted. You were professional, discreet and nothing was too much to ask. On the day we had an issue in that we were unable to take our traditional photographs in a certain place and so we were unable to have them. I didn't need to worry though as you were very creative and took natural action shots of all my family and friends which definitely made up for the earlier issue. I love looking at my wedding photographs and I always get comments on how beautiful and natural the photographs are. Thank you Ben.

You photographed our wedding in September 2013, and the results were fabulous: a good blend of unposed (which we were hoping for!), posed (obligatory family shots), and some really clever sleight-of-hand pictures of us (now framed in our living room). Can't recommend you highly enough! Zoe Hopkins and Gordon (married in Dorset).
