Erik Shenko, wedding photographer for Costa Rica and Playa del Carmen, Mexico

I'm a destination wedding photographer passionate about art. Photography and music are the ways to express myself and share with the world my joy of living. I'm married to a great woman with who is a photographer too and we both are part of Shenkophotography. We share our time between Costa Rica and Playa del Carmen, Mexico as we truly enjoy working in these two corners of the world. Travel is our big passion and we just love to combine it with our work all over the planet. Doesn't matter if we are in Playa del Carmen, in Philippines or in Costa Rica we are always interested in different weddings, different couples and different ways of celebrating love. One of the basic things in our approach to the wedding photography is to meet our couples in the real life and to take pictures of them before the wedding day, so the couple can know us personally and see how we work. It's essential for us to learn the interaction between two people before documenting their big day so we do our possible to organize a meeting or even tow some months or some days before the wedding day. We define our style as a documentary photography, in other words more life less poses! For real and amazing pictures it is enough of being in love, being positive and being yourself. Wedding Photograph taken as bridesmaids see bride in her dress for the first time and showing their reactions
To document the best moments of a wedding day, a photographer shouldn’t only focus on the bride and groom , or even on the main event. "Reaction shots," which record the reactions of guests observing the wedding’s activities as they occur, add an invaluable dimension to the visual record of the festivities. “I was constantly given a gentle reminder to look beyond the obvious action while covering sports assignments while on staff at The Hartford Courant newspaper,...Read more
Wedding Photographer captures quite moment as the bridesmaid looks timidly out before entering the scene
Weddings can be chaotic, noisy affairs where emotions are displayed publicly, so one of your biggest challenges that day can be capturing that quiet, intimate side. Trust, anticipation, skilled observation, savvy lens selection and a host of other judgments make it possible to bag those poignant moments in images that recall the day for those in attendance, and reveal a story for those who were not. It is all part of the unique value proposition that our members bring to wedding photojournalism.Read more
Shaunte Dittmar, of California, is a wedding photographer for West Shore Cafe
Picture this: It's mid-summer, with temps in the low-80s, a cloudless sky, and oh-so-light gusts keeping everyone just cool enough. Maybe you're out on a bluff, overlooking the ocean, or in a fragrant, blooming garden. A scene is set for the ideal summer wedding. But—back in reality here—there's no way that six to eight months or more down the road any couple can forecast such pristine conditions for their wedding day. Despite their idealized image, summer weddings can...Read more
Wedding photograph with layers | Image of the groom coming into the ceremony outdoors
Anyone who’s been to a wedding knows there’s nothing simple about the photographer’s job. This is doubly true for a wedding photojournalist, whose goal is not to just photograph the couple, and the family and friends present, but to capture the energy and the variety of emotion that surround the event. After all, it’s called a milestone for a reason. One of the best compositional strategies for a wedding photojournalist is to focus on images with depth. Deep photos, like...Read more
Bride with a really dirty wedding dress getting lifted up by the groom on the dance floor inside a tented reception | Rainy Wedding Photography
There’s nothing quite like a wedding reception in a tent, with its uniquely informal atmosphere, customized decor and proximity to the elements outdoors. There’s nothing quite like a wedding reception in a tent, with its uniquely informal atmosphere, customized decor and proximity to the elements outdoors. Weddings and receptions with an outdoor component are incredibly popular in the warm months, with a tent considered de rigueur for such events when considering the fickleness of...Read more
Cake cutting photograph with the bride and groom deciding if they should smash or not smash the cake.
No other tradition during the wedding day should rely as heavily on improvisation as the cake cutting. Those entrenched in the traditional camp may want to offer guidelines on where to stand, how to cut the cake and when to smile for the camera, but their promptings need not be followed for a thoroughly memorable experience. In fact, not following the “rules” is frequently what makes the cake cutting unforgettable. This time-honored ritual can turn into an entertaining affair with...Read more
