Scott MacDonald is a wedding photographer based in San Jose, Calif. with a strong background in photojournalism. Scott worked for a dozen years as a daily newspaper photojournalist in three different states, observing his community and telling stories through pictures. He won a number of awards during that career, including The Society of Professional Journalists' "Best Photographer in Ohio."
Scott loves capturing the varied emotion at weddings: the smiles, the tears, the joyful dancing, the warm embraces. He approaches weddings as an unobtrusive documentarian, but also remains approachable and engaging to his clients and their friends and family. When not behind the camera, Scott enjoys cycling, skateboarding, playing the drums and watching the sun set in Big Sur with his wife Amber.
Award Winning Photos
The Wedding Photojournalist Association proudly recognizes the accomplishments and creative excellence of Scott. The following awards have been earned by Scott from the WPJA. These achievements come with great merit considering the high level of competition that a member faces in the contests.
How do you make a portrait stand out from the rest? This is the way. It's as if we are seeing an intimate moment between the bride and groom.
Funny. Over the top, or under the table if you will. But different, and good reaction by the photographer.
The spontaneity of the photo was nice. I didn’t judge it higher because the composition was a bit off. Still a nice moment.
All that work getting ready and, of all the luck, the hair dresser’s creations meet the hair “mess-er”...the wind and its more natural views of beauty. Unfortunately for them, that short wall offered little protection. But, fortunately their battle for beauty was a moment of beauty. The photographer provided an important perspective for the moment through good use of composition. The airiness of the photo provides a sense of the wind swirling in the open space that envelops the ill-fated women in the futile struggle.
From corner to corner this entertaining image is filled with strong layers, great framing, and captured moment.
