Newark wedding and elopement photography by Joey Curry of New Jersey

When I was 13 I was drawing a lot and dreamed of being an animator. I struggled with characters and ideas. My mom saw the need to create and handed me her Olympus OM 10. I was immediately hooked. Having a camera became like having my wallet...or pants. I needed it, It was part of getting dressed and going out. I am almost 40 now and I still feel the same way. For years I shot street photography and fine art stuff while I traveled and grew and developed my style. 6 years ago I met my now wife. She was pivotal in my transition to Wedding Photography. She pushed me to pursue it as a career, as a form of stability for my new, growing family. I now have over a hundred weddings under my belt, with tons of engagements, proposals, events, and portraiture to boot. My style comes from my artsy, street background (documentary/photojournalistic) and is mixed with my personality (fun, colorful, relaxed, personable) I love shooting people. I love shooting events. I REALLY love shooting weddings. There is nothing in the world like meeting strangers, getting the privilege and joy of being a part of something so special and meaningful, having the best time ever, and going from strangers to friends! Newark wedding photography by Matthew Stallone of New Jersey

I officially started Matt Stallone Photography in 2011. I treat photography as the art form it should be and not just a business; I spent years studying the masters and am always trying to push myself to new limits. I'm a wedding photographer who is extremely passionate about my craft. On my days off from photographing weddings and engagements, you will find a camera in hand photographing something else. I live and breathe photography. Now some quick tidbits on me as a person. I love traveling, hiking, biking, and any other kind of adventure you can throw my way, I'm a foodie and pretty good around the kitchen, I'm a huge fan of the arts, from any genre of music, books, movies, and traditional art, a dog lover, and most of all I'm a romantic. All this may sound a little unnecessary to list, but I'm letting you see who I am because this is how I view the world and this shows through my photos. [Newark Wedding Photographer]

Hi! I'm a wedding photographer living in Southern New Jersey and covering the greater Philadelphia area as well as all of New Jersey. I've been photographing weddings professionally since 2012. While photography has always been a passion of mine, I didn't start photographing weddings until I realized just how posey and fake most weddings were when it came to photography! I decided then that I would start photographing weddings as a storyteller and photojournalist. Capturing real moments and the true essence of the day for my couples. Things took off from there and now here I am! I am also an avid wildlife photographer. I think that wildlife and weddings are very similar to me in that you get an addictive rush when you are able to capture the perfect moment. A moment where a single photograph can tell an entire story. There is nothing else like that and I will never tire of waiting endlessly to capture those moments! [Philadelphia Wedding Photographer]

Philadelphia wedding photography and elopements by Meg Brock of Pennsylvania

Meg Brock is a wedding photojournalist based in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Meg was drawn to documentary photography and storytelling after a 10-year career as a pediatric intensive care nurse, which included two years volunteering in West Africa on board a hospital ship. Her experiences as a nurse were formative and gifted her an intimate view of the complexity of the individual and deep emotions connected to the human experience. As a result, she is drawn to the emotional connection and loves storytelling, which is shown in her documentary wedding photography. In addition to being a photographer, she is married to a wonderful husband and is excited to soon be celebrating 10 years of marriage. She is the mother of two children who share her strong will and determination. Being their mother has been and continues to be the greatest and most delicate privilege of her life. Philadelphia wedding photography by Katie Baab of Pennsylvania

I cannot think of any other medium that so greatly encompasses preservation, appreciation, gratitude, and documentation the way that photography does. Photographs have power. They can transport you to another time, they can conjure a once vivid memory after it fades, they can show you what love looks like and at the very least, they can record a moment or an image of something you never want to forget. The magnitude of family photography is what interests me. Whether an engagement, a proposal, a wedding, a new baby, an immediate or extended family, what is happening right now is important and I want to record it for you. I strive to make images that are real, raw, emotive, artistic, classic and genuine and in a few years, or in many years, my hope is that they will be waiting for you when you want to recall the memories that you are making right now. I earned my BFA in photography from the University of Delaware and I have been photographing weddings and families professionally for over 13 years in Philadelphia, New York, and surrounding areas. I've learned that it's not about being in the right place at the right time, it's about being open to everything that is happening around me. The magic is always in the details and in the small moments that could get overlooked. My work has been recognized by Philadelphia Wedding Magazine, The Knot magazine, Lehigh Valley Style magazine, Style Me Pretty, and multiple online wedding resources. I am passionate about photographing your love story for you, for your family and for future generations to appreciate, and in doing it in such a way that the energy and love within your images can be felt for the rest of time. Here is a little bit about me, Denise Chastain. I sold my first photograph when I was fifteen years old to my music teacher. That same year, my first published photograph appeared in 16 magazine. Four years in high school I studied Photography. I went on to further develop my photography skills at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After graduation, I pursued my freelance career, shooting an array of diverse assignments. My first big break was photographing the late great Ronnie Dawson, rockabilly hero, in 1996. The story was published in Option Magazine. Soon after, I photographed personalities such as Marc Anthony, Joan Jett, Missy Elliott, Nas, Ozzy Osbourne and former NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. During this time, the late Elyse Weissberg was at first my business consultant and soon after, she became my agent. We had a great friendship and working relationship. With her help and expertise, we branched out into the world of advertising, cultivating AT&T, Chase, North Point Communications, Janssen Products, LP, The United States Postal Service, Ogilvy and Mather NYC, Grey Advertising San Francisco and Foote Cone & Belding as both new and ongoing clients. In 2004, I was approached by NKH Enterprises to be part of their “New York Streets” Magazine Show (Japan’s version of ’60 Minutes’). It was a 20 minute segment about my photography and how I use NYC as a backdrop for my images. They had a hard time finding the right photographer to feature for this segment and it was a great honor to be part of the series. During most of my career, I photographed weddings as well. My client base grew from my connections in the editorial and commercial world. In 2006, I was invited to be a member of the great Wedding Photojournalism Association. Emily Liang, Houston Texas Wedding Photography

It all started off with the mesmerizing arts and the people culture of streets and cities. In college Emily picked up the camera and journeyed into the world of street and cultural photography. Even today on her spare time, Emily would take trips around the world, take the local buses, and walk through narrow streets to capture the colorful elements of the city streets. This interest built her affinity for a photojournalistic style, which comes into play in photographing weddings in her years as wedding photographer. Emily has been photographing weddings and engagements since 2007 and she co-started 1314 STUDIO in 2010. She serves the Houston area and her works has been featured in wedding guides & bridal blogs nationwide. [Houston Wedding Photographer]

Manhattan elopements and wedding photography by Tim D. Yun, from New York City

When Tim had his first encounter with a DSLR camera he was so fascinated he couldn’t put it away. He soon understood it was so much more than a toy. Not long after, he decided to make his new passion his profession. During the next few years, he received a great deal of training from top photographers, learning what weddings were all about. During this time his eyes opened up to the real meaning of being a wedding photographer. Tim states, “I wanted to document the tears, laughter, excitement, and love between the couple so that when they look back, they can relive the day. My images will tell a story that words cannot describe. I capture moments that will never come back. I learned how to be a true storyteller.” Since then, he has been working hard to make each and every wedding a sparkling and memorable day for decades to come. As a single man, Tim never thought much about anything related to weddings. His perspective of wedding photography changed entirely as soon as he got married. “I started to see people, hear their stories, feel their wedding jitters.” He wanted to tell the story of the day through his photographs. “I realized what a blessing, challenge, and responsibility it was to be a part of the happiest day of a beautiful couple’s life.” Tim feels happiest when he receives letters from the newlyweds saying that the wedding images he has taken were more than they had expected and that they had already framed and hung some of them around their home. “I take it very personally”, he admits, “I treat every wedding as if it was my own. I want all of them to be perfect!” [Manhattan Wedding Photographer]

My name is Colleen Stepanian. I am a freelance photographer based in Philadelphia, PA and available for travel. I've contemplated long and hard every single day since I've picked up a camera about why I do what I do and what motivates me. I think about what it means to me and about what it means to other people. There are a few reasons, some have changed, some haven't. The few that drive them all are human connection, relationships, and vulnerability. I feel I have a responsibility to photograph present reality for the sake of human history and future nostalgia. It is very easy for me to connect with people, whether it be my clients or a stranger on the street. I love knowing that through my chosen medium I am able to gain new perspectives of this life, one person at a time. I feel honored and blessed to be able to wake up every morning and tell stories through photographs. Whether you are a couple that is tying the knot with a large wedding or small elopement, a family that wants to remember the little things, an individual that wants their story to be heard, or you're with a non-profit that needs an event covered, I want to hear from you. I don't like having my picture taken. So, if you feel a bit awkward having your photo taken, I feel your pain. I have been photographing weddings and events for nearly 20 years, and I always aim to make my clients feel as comfortable as possible throughout the process (before, during, and after the wedding day). My vision is influenced by my background in the performing arts (music and theater), and my photography career sprang from that background (photographing live music/band and theatrical performances). After snapping pictures at the weddings of some friends in the late 1990s, I developed a true passion for wedding photography. Now I shoot between 25-30 weddings per year, and my work has been featured in The Knot Magazine as well blogs like Style Me Pretty, Wedding Chicks, Snippet & Ink, Brooklyn Bride, and Rock & Roll Bride. My non-wedding work has been shown in galleries and shows as well as being featured in international art publications. [Manhattan Wedding Photographer]

My inspiration for photography is greatly influenced by literature, music, cinema and personal experiences. I try to approach my work as if it's a magical, timeless film, beautiful music composition, a memorable novel or a poem that one is constantly drawn to come back to and every time finds something new. My lifelong involvement with fine art and documentary photography lets me intimately capture the emotions, grace and light in all of the priceless moments of a wedding day, as well as the fleeting moments between those moments. I am also involved in curating film programs for several international festivals and constantly working on my personal film and photography projects. My preference is to take on limited amount of wedding commissions per year to enable myself to keep a fresh, open-minded approach and genuine excitement about every single one I select to photograph, providing my clients with undivided attention and creative energy they deserve. Simplicity. Beauty. Contours of passion. Reality of Love. I embrace the art of photography - of freezing what is meant to pass in a millisecond. As a wedding and a fine art photographer I have received such compliments as AGWPJA's top 10 awards and the Harnisch Family Journalism scholarship in the recent years. I feel honored to have been able to witness and capture the unique wedding traditions across the United States and around the world, in locales ranging from the bright elegance of Florida and wondrous beauty of Yosemite, to Russia's crisp architecture and organic beauty of the Greek isles. Originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia, where my intrinsic connection to the arts was born, I came to New York to study journalism and photography. I have had the privilege of being a documentarian at diverse venues ranging from the beautiful Plaza Hotel, Mandarin Oriental, the Rainbow Room, the lovely Pierre Hotel, to the city's avant-garde gems like the Galapagous Art Space and the New Museum on the Bowery. My fine art and photojournalistic work has been exhibited at New York's Cielo, and has been published on Grace Ormonde's website, the Knot, Manhattan Bride, the Bride, and the New York Times' wedding section. From as early as I can remember I absorbed energies around me and when I would see someone happy or sad I automatically reflected the feeling in some way. The mechanism became ingrained in my photography and ultimately became the reason for me loving the craft- being able to evoke the truth of the moment and reflect the innate, uninhibited emotions of my subjects. Be it the intimate celebration in a garden of a home where one grew up as a child or the baroque fireworks of the grand ceremonies and intricate traditions, it is infinitely inspiring to me to see how unique each person is, and I greatly value the opportunity to be part of the bride and groom's celebration and the opportunity to create great memories. She attended School of Visual Arts and International Center of photography in New York City. Through this medium, she aims to grasp the fleeting anxieties, palpable passions, and nuanced intimacy that make a bride and groom remember their wedding for years to come. She makes sure they get an opportunity to re-live that visceral connection with each other and their loved ones every time they pick up their album. Westchester County wedding photography by Chris Ware of Upstate New York

The evolution of wedding photography has seen the term wedding photojournalist become omnipresent in the industry, and a calling card for many photographers. If you take one thing from your time on our site, please note that while many may claim to have photo-journalistic training, few have practiced their craft in the field. Chris Ware is a tried and true photojournalist. A camera could be found in his hand as early as the age of 4. Before entering high school, Chris built his first darkroom with the help of his father who supported his passion for photography. This same passion accompanied him through his time in the Navy as a Photographer's mate, and on to the rigors of the Masters program in Photography at Syracuse University. Since 2003, Chris has worked in news media, steadily building his skillset and honing his craft. During that time, and through present day, Chris has also photographed weddings from small intimate affairs, to large, lavish extravaganzas. Chris Ware has dedicated a significant portion of his life to the pursuit of artistic excellence in photo and cinematography, so much so that he has been recognized for excellence in his field at the regional and national level. With accolades that include the prestigious Peabody Award for digital media as well as over 20 New York Emmy Awards for excellence in video journalism, a more skilled photographer for your wedding day cannot be found. It is with this same trained eye that Chris approaches your special day. Capturing genuine candid moments as they happen. Not demanding unnatural poses and forced smiles. The day promises instances of joy, capturing moments is where Chris Ware, a professional working photojournalist, far outpaces the average wedding photographer. CWP Weddings focuses on building rapport with you and those closest to you in the weeks and days leading up to your special day. Because we invest so much time, effort, and energy into each event, our award-winning team only photograph a small number of weddings a year, making each one unique. We respect that you are making a significant investment of trust and finances when selecting a wedding photographer, and as such we are also very selective in who we agree to work with. Our commitment to the highest level of professionalism and making sure each guest is beyond satisfied does have a cost, and that is found in the time constraints the CWP Team faces. If you are interested in working with CWP Weddings we ask that you reach out well in advance of your date, as our calendar tends to book quickly. Integrity is something we pride ourselves on, Wedding Photojournalist Association is an amazing resource for your wedding. Please take the time to look at WPJA while doing your research, even if our team is not the right fit for you. We want you to have all the information that is relevant to help you make the best decision possible. Wishing you all the best, and we look forward to hearing from you! Harrisburg wedding and elopement photography by Scott Josuweit of Pennsylvania

I focus on capturing important moments in the most authentic and creative ways possible so my couples can be the rockstars that they are. None of my weddings look exactly the same because I treat each wedding like it should be: unique. Your wedding day isn't my personal photoshoot. I want the two of you to truly enjoy your engagement and wedding and live in those moments. In my spare time, you'll probably find me drinking some delicious craft beer, stuffing my face with local food, and spending time with my friends and family. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. My fiancé and I traveled to Ireland in 2017, western Canada in 2018, and toured all of the southern US in 2019. I love dogs but became more of a cat person when I adopted an adorable gray tabby cat named Chloe seven years ago. I'm an adrenaline junkie. I've been skydiving, ziplining, whitewater rafting, and much more. I live for the thrill! [Harrisburg Wedding Photographer]

New York City wedding photography by Jenna Salvagin

I started my career after I graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2011. I received my BFA in Photography and specifically worked on portraiture and interiors during my years in college. This obviously translated to my eventual career perfectly. Before I made the jump into being a full-time wedding photographer, I worked as a studio photographer for the furniture and antique gallery Carlton Hobbs, was an intern photographer for Brooklyn Museum, and was a gallery assistant at BRIC Contemporary Art, all the while pursuing my dream of getting my wedding photography business off the ground. It was a lot of work, but so worth it. Now, I am residing in the Hudson Valley, and split my time between the Hudson Valley and New York City. I have captured many different types of weddings all over the East Coast, and relish in the diversity I get to experience and document. I’ve photographed weddings on top of mountains, on the beach, in hotel rooms, and at some of the most glamorous venues you could imagine - it never gets old, and I love seeing the ways my clients make their day special. I am a firm believer in paying it forward, and donate a portion of my package price to charity. [New York City - Metro Wedding Photographer]

Traditionally speaking, often times it is the couple’s families who help pay for their wedding. However, unfortunately that’s just not possible for everyone, especially these days when the cost of weddings can quickly and easily get out of control. Some couples find themselves in the position of paying for all of their own wedding expenses, which can be quite the financial burden to take on, and about 40% of Millennials end up in this boat. So, how can you stick to your allotted...Read more

Some couples, as they begin planning for their weddings, might think that they are limited to the classic locations: churches, gardens, beaches, or even Las Vegas. But in doing so they’re missing out on a multitude of unique options that might suit their personalities much better! Why limit yourself to a quiet, quaint ceremony when your adventurous heart may be calling out for something more? An entirely different genre of wedding, so to speak, is the adventure wedding elopement. This concept...Read more
While some of us were fortunate enough to be born as extroverts, not everyone feels the same way. For a good chunk of the population, any number of the typical wedding day traditions can inspire anxiety and existential dread. This day is all about you, yes, but does that mean all the attention has to be on you as well? FROM VOWS TO CHITCHAT, WHICH REMAINS SACRED? Traditional weddings often require some degree of performance on the part of the couple, whether that is in the form of reciting...Read more
Not everyone has a lagoon or glacier next door, but there's no rule saying you can't have a small wedding in the great outdoors. Take advantage of natural sunshine and that open, airy feeling and give your guests some room to breathe! Oftentimes when people are considering a venue for their weddings, they search for a location away from home, whether that be ten minutes or ten hours, all just to find what they already have: a place that holds meaning for them, that feels comfortable, or that they find special and memorable. Everyone always says that your wedding day is all about you. But let’s face it; that’s not always actually the case. Many couples stress over guest lists, planning, expenses, and all the frills and traditions of your standard large wedding that they may or may not even be interested in. Thank You from the bottom of our hearts Edward! You knew exactly what to do and where to go to capture background pictures of the Brooklyn bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge park. You captured our romance and all excitement of the day easily! You are a true professional with true Artistic talent. you were wonderful to work with. What we loved the most, the very next day you posted a 50 picture sneak peak of our day on Facebook. every bride wants to relive the day and to see those pictures ,the very next day, was a perfect gift to me, the bride. i have to say if i only had those 50 pictures I'd be completely happy and content, truly! But you then sent us a custom made cd and case with our photos on the cover. Very nice surprise! All the pictures from the day, start to finish and fabulous! we both feel very blessed to have found you and were able to get a booking with you! Thank you Edward!!! Love, Leon and Ari P.

Hi Ed, From start to finish, our experience with you for our wedding photography was incredibly pleasant and easy! You are so great to work; you have great professionalism and skills. We are so pleased we chose you as the photographer for our big day–we’ve heard nothing but rave reviews of our photos since. You captured our magical weekend beautifully and our only regret is that we didn’t hire you for our rehearsal dinner as well! We want to thank you for capturing our wedding day and night so beautifully and allowing us to relive it over & over again through photos!

You were very responsive and flexible. Your eye and style are fantastic and you are very calm and collected. Since the day we booked over the phone long distance, you made us feel very confident and relaxed in choosing your service. We saw preview photos the very next day and we LOVE them. Your value is excellent and I highly recommend you to anyone. We can't wait to see the rest of the photos!

Hi Edward, You are great to work with. You captured really amazing moments throughout the wedding, and one of the best qualities of your work was your ability to use natural light to make everything look romantic and outstandingly beautiful. You always responded promptly to all emails and arrived early to the wedding; overall, very reliable, reasonable, and extremely talented!

You and your entire crew were so phenomenal yesterday. Thank you so much for all your help and being so dedicated and helpful and cheerful and energetic. When the weather opened up out of nowhere, it was a shock and I didn't see how the day was going to turn around. But you guys made it so nice and put so much effort into getting us the shots we were hoping for despite the curveball. I just wanted to extend a big thank you and let you know how much we appreciated it.
