11 Documentary Wedding Photographers...

I grew up in the midst of different cities and cultures, absorbing different environments and always curious about life and its ways. I picked up a camera in an endeavour to document things happening around me quite early on. Photography to me is my means of communicating with this universe, expressing what I cannot express with words, connecting with people's emotions and dreams. My style is to create something new, something different in the same setting. Finding that unique frame in the middle of chaos is what I am good at. I am a very passionate photographer and once a client has hired me, they know for sure that their memories are going to be captured in the most unique manner possible. Along with my husband Akash, I started WeddingNama and we are very proud of our baby. We give it our heart and soul and work towards making each and every moment beautifully memorable. Tamil Nadu and Chennai elopement wedding photography by Sujith Kumar of India

I am Sujith Kumar, a photographer based out of Chennai, India. A Retro Aficionado. Images have always fascinated me, Kodak's focus-free cameras which were a rage in the late '90s was my favorite toy!! I was mentored by Mr.Raghu Lakshminarayanan, who taught me the mind, body, and soul of wedding photography. Becoming a photographer was a fantasy to me more than a dream. Capturing weddings in an unconventional style is what I prefer, whether you call it wedding reportage, wedding photojournalism or candid wedding photography. I along with my team have crisscrossed South India and we consider it a privilege to be part of the most vibrant wedding culture in the world. [Chennai Wedding Photographer]

Hyderabad documentary wedding photography by Sougata Mishra of Telangana India

Sougata Mishra, who is a postgraduate in Pharmaceutics and a Research Scientist, understood his instincts, not very soon, that he isn’t cut out for the industry he is working in. His passion for creating stories about love and life through his camera, made him switch from a stabilized profession of an ‘Industrial Researcher’ to a ‘Professional Wedding Photographer’. He initiated his dream venture ‘Chayasutra’ in 2015 and over these years, he has carved out an astounding place for himself in such a promising industry. Sougata leads his team of creative photographers, who travel extensively in diverse cities across the country and capture candid moments and life events of the people. He candidly shares “Our team believes in capturing emotions rather than just clicking pictures of people and places”. They have rich experience in both the technical know-how of the gear involved and the artistic approach with which they capture moments. The moment capturer, Sougata Mishra says, “We are always on our toes to showcase the best of our talent to a larger audience”. Talking about the sense of gratification he perceives for choosing his career as an artist, he softly adds “After, all the work we accomplish in a project, it’s the billion-dollar smile that I get to see on our client’s face, which motivates me to perform better each day”. The wedding photographer is also inspired by the work of the famous ‘Two Mann Studios’ and gets a load of motivational speeches by ‘Sandeep Maheshwari’. However, it was a rough start for Sougata in the initial years of his venture. With no prior experience or study in photography, he incurred a loss of around 70k in the first year. Continuous back pulling from friends and relatives worsened his difficulties. But his family supported him through all the rough patches. Plus his experiences taught him to deliver more than expected outcomes to his clients. Over the due course of time, he was able to tap the potential in the Wedding photography industry, which is a promising industry generating handsome revenues in the market today. Sougata discloses “Each time I find faults within myself, I work on understanding and correcting them. I am always keen for learning and finding solutions to impart the best of services to our clients”. [Hyderabad Wedding Photographer]

WPJA Trophy William Lambelet Wedding and Elopement Photographer for France and Occitanie

William started out as a freelance wedding photographer in 2009. Very soon a documentary approach emerged and gave meaning to his work. Covering weddings like a photojournalist allowed him to develop a personal style. For him, this approach is the best way to document all the details of the day in a genuine and original way. Because a wedding is a totality. It is not limited to an exchange of wedding rings, or to the first waltz. It is the sum of many moments, both significant and trivial. His work has received several international awards (more than 200), including the global title of «Photographer of the year» by the WPJA. He has also lectured on his approach to wedding photography around the world (Moscow, Mexico, Johannesburg, Delhi, ...). [Montpellier Wedding Photographer]

Ontario wedding and elopement photography by Amit Dullu of Canada

Photography, for me, is my passion and I believe my pictures are moments in time that I have been able to capture and each of those moments is able to tell us a story. It is those first ten minutes I spend with my clients that are the most important ones - its the beginning of understanding each other and making that short journey together.... an opportunity for me to give them their story in my words. With no formal training in photography, I have left no stone unturned to learn from any knowledgeable source I can - I have put in long hours to understand the finer technical aspects of this art, experimented and honed my skills over the years. What started as a short two-hour maternity shoot in a snowstorm has now become 5 years of extensive experience of shooting more than a hundred weddings - most of them in Canada and India. As a full-time professional photographer, I specialize in portrait & wedding photography - also do events, if time permits. On the parallel, I also love to paint - mostly abstracts in acrylics...my work was recently chosen in the 8 best emerging artists in Toronto by the prestigious Elaine Fleck Gallery. Auckland wedding and elopement photography by Ankita Bhullar of New Zealand

Born in India, brought up in New Zealand - exploring and experiencing the best of both worlds. I'm a sucker for South Asian weddings and nothing gets me more excited than capturing the diverse beauty of South Asian traditions, here in New Zealand. Capturing details at a wedding, especially an Indian wedding is crucial. But it doesn't need to be visually presented in a drawn-down repetitive manner. 60 weddings, 4 countries and 3 years - Over this time I've seen many nervous brides, overwhelmed parents, exhausted friends, and family who've been working hard to put on a beautiful wedding for their loved one. All those laughs, tears, and dancing are truly a sight to see; and encapsulating them on the photo is a privilege for me. I constantly explore new ideas and techniques that help us capture those authentic moments. I work intimately with all my couples and provide them with planning tools, creative advice, and anything they may need to make their big day, and my photography all the more memorable. WPJA Communiqué: Features
We all know that the economy can go through some hard times, and be somewhat reminiscent of past recessions. However, as people cut back on non-essential little luxuries here and there, one constant remains: weddings. People don’t tend to just stop getting married due to a poor economy, nor should they! So, in an industry that keeps on going through thick and thin, what are some things to expect for the future, and what is really necessary to still make that wedding day memorable and...Read more
Traditionally speaking, often times it is the couple’s families who help pay for their wedding. However, unfortunately that’s just not possible for everyone, especially these days when the cost of weddings can quickly and easily get out of control. Some couples find themselves in the position of paying for all of their own wedding expenses, which can be quite the financial burden to take on, and about 40% of Millennials end up in this boat. So, how can you stick to your allotted...Read more
Not everyone has a lagoon or glacier next door, but there's no rule saying you can't have a small wedding in the great outdoors. Take advantage of natural sunshine and that open, airy feeling and give your guests some room to breathe! LESS IS MORE Instead of hemming your guests in on all sides, give them some elbow room, and legroom, too. There's no need to induce claustrophobia when you've got a wide, open space. Let your guests take in the view, especially if you've got a spectacular one. You...Read more
While some people live for the hustle and bustle of a big wedding with extravagant décor and an impossibly long guest list, others find these kinds of weddings to be too much hoopla, preferring instead something simpler and quieter, allowing for more intimacy between them and their fiancés on this special day. Some couples, as they begin planning for their weddings, might think that they are limited to the classic locations: churches, gardens, beaches, or even Las Vegas. But in doing so they’re missing out on a multitude of unique options that might suit their personalities much better! Why limit yourself to a quiet, quaint ceremony when your adventurous heart may be calling out for something more?
