East Flanders Wedding Photography by Jonas De Gent, of Flanders, Belgium

I am Jonas, 39, born in Ghent and living in Aalst. Married to Heike and father of Mon (6) and Miene (4). Together my everything. In addition, I am fond of the sea, music, sour candies and photography, of course. To me, photography is a hobby that got out of hand. After enthusiastic reactions to my travel photos, friends asked me to photograph their children or even their wedding. And with success, because many tens of thousands of photos later I could make my profession out of photography. My style? Spontaneous, romantic, no-nonsense photography. But especially: non-everyday. East Flanders Wedding Photographer Sven Soetens - Flanders, Belgium

When people come in and ask me for pretty pictures, presented in a classical way, I tell them to look for another photographer. Because with me you'll receive something different. We don't want pictures that show you, your family and friends posing with a big smile on their faces. We want the pictures to have a true emotional value. We want to capture the true emotions of your wedding day. We try to intervene as little as possible, but catch the moments that really matter. During the wedding shoot the couple will receive my guidance and advice to make the shoot into a really fun experience. The emotional and artistic photos will remind the couple of their perfect day. As a fulltime wedding photographer I obtained the necessary knowledge and technical skills to work the camera and to afterwards put the best contrast, colour, and details into the pictures. Pictures can be delivered in different presentation: albums, animated slideshows, collage, cards or big size printings on different materials. I am also co-founder of VZW Studio, the association for professional photographers. It is important to me to defend the interests of the professional photographer end it gives me the chance to constantly improve my skills, through their workshops and courses. Sideline story photography at the wedding reception showing ladies drinking gin from tea cups
Some wedding photographers may feel the need to include the bride or groom in every picture, but those photos convey only part of the day's record. Most WPJA members will probably tell you that you're not fully documenting the event unless you get out there on the periphery and record the subplots of the wedding day—the unique and intersecting stories of the guests as they enjoy the festivities. We call these types of pictures “sideline shots,” and they are distinct from the standard reaction...Read more
Wedding Photography of Parents - ceremony image showing the handover by the father of the bride to the groom
In the 1950 classic film Father of the Bride , George, played by Spenser Tracy, watches his daughter Annie, played by Elizabeth Taylor, take her wedding vows and says to himself, “I realized at that moment that I was never going to come home again and see Annie at the top of the stairs. Never going to see her again at our breakfast table in her nightgown and socks...Annie was all grown up and leaving us, and something inside began to hurt.” The scene may be fiction, but the emotion behind it is...Read more
Wedding Photojournalism Beauty Photos of the bride crossing her eyes as she reacts to her dress being buttoned up from behind
The bride steps into her wedding gown. Her mother and a coterie of bridesmaids assist her with the final touches on her hair and makeup. They primp and preen at her gown, perhaps contributing something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Today, the vast majority of brides invite their photographer to document the “getting ready” period, and for good reason. Getting ready can be a monumental task for the bride and her entourage, and an event in itself. It...Read more

Wedding Photograph taken as bridesmaids see bride in her dress for the first time and showing their reactions
To document the best moments of a wedding day, a photographer shouldn’t only focus on the bride and groom , or even on the main event. "Reaction shots," which record the reactions of guests observing the wedding’s activities as they occur, add an invaluable dimension to the visual record of the festivities. “I was constantly given a gentle reminder to look beyond the obvious action while covering sports assignments while on staff at The Hartford Courant newspaper,...Read more
Wedding photography detail of bride and bridesmaids Preparing for the ceremony outside in the wind with their bouquets.
With the snap of a shutter, a camera lens captures a single moment in time; one that can never occur again in the exact same way. At any given wedding, there are an infinite number of these moments that pass us by. Some hold in place longer than others; some come and go in the blink of an eye. It is through such fleeting details that some wedding photojournalists earn their keep. With a professional eye honed through years of visual training and practice, they constantly scan the wedding scene...Read more
