4 Documentary Wedding Photographers...

Melbourne wedding photography by Alan Rogers of Victoria, Australia

With every wedding I photograph I bring along 40+ years of photographic experience for my couples and their families. My approach allows everyone to fully enjoy the wedding because I will not overly direct and pose people. The day goes so quickly, and I believe couples deserve to have as much time as possible with family and friends. It is during these times that the moments are most sincerest. As a father of four beautiful children myself, I understand how precious family is, and how images captured today will be treasured, becoming irreplaceable in years to come. My goal for every couple is to provide images that tell the true story, heart, and soul of their wedding! [Melbourne Wedding Photographer]

I started to discover photo-reportage about 5 years through the work Trent Parke and decided the photojournalism path was right for me. I'm based in Sydney, Australia and shoot weddings all around Australia. My aim is to capture natural emotions, feelings and connections. I want personalities to be distinct from wedding to wedding and the best way to do that is to document people acting naturally. [New South Wales, Australia Wedding Photographer]

WPJA Communiqué: Features
We all know that the economy can go through some hard times, and be somewhat reminiscent of past recessions. However, as people cut back on non-essential little luxuries here and there, one constant remains: weddings. People don’t tend to just stop getting married due to a poor economy, nor should they! So, in an industry that keeps on going through thick and thin, what are some things to expect for the future, and what is really necessary to still make that wedding day memorable and...Read more

Everyone always says that your wedding day is all about you. But let’s face it; that’s not always actually the case. Many couples stress over guest lists, planning, expenses, and all the frills and traditions of your standard large wedding that they may or may not even be interested in. Fortunately, though, the concept of small weddings is becoming increasingly popular for couples who either want to be able to completely customize their day where and when they want with the option...Read more
While some of us were fortunate enough to be born as extroverts, not everyone feels the same way. For a good chunk of the population, any number of the typical wedding day traditions can inspire anxiety and existential dread. This day is all about you, yes, but does that mean all the attention has to be on you as well? FROM VOWS TO CHITCHAT, WHICH REMAINS SACRED? Traditional weddings often require some degree of performance on the part of the couple, whether that is in the form of reciting...Read more
So your wedding is just around the corner and you’ve decided to elope , either because you want to do this on a budget , avoid a large wedding party, or simply to enjoy the day together with minimal distractions and as little stress as possible . They say 'all you need is love', but where exactly can you afford to trim the fat, so to speak? You want simplicity, but you also want to be properly married and, surely, to remember this occasion. Who, then, could be more important than...Read more

Some couples, as they begin planning for their weddings, might think that they are limited to the classic locations: churches, gardens, beaches, or even Las Vegas. But in doing so they’re missing out on a multitude of unique options that might suit their personalities much better! Why limit yourself to a quiet, quaint ceremony when your adventurous heart may be calling out for something more? An entirely different genre of wedding, so to speak, is the adventure wedding elopement. This concept...Read more
Not everyone has a lagoon or glacier next door, but there's no rule saying you can't have a small wedding in the great outdoors. Take advantage of natural sunshine and that open, airy feeling and give your guests some room to breathe! LESS IS MORE Instead of hemming your guests in on all sides, give them some elbow room, and legroom, too. There's no need to induce claustrophobia when you've got a wide, open space. Let your guests take in the view, especially if you've got a spectacular one. You...Read more

Hi Alan, Just wanted to let you know how happy James and I are with your work. Looking at them makes me feel like it was just yesterday and you really captured how the whole day felt. I can't take the smile off my face whenever I look at them. I don't know how I'm going to choose which ones to frame although I do have a few favorites. Your photos are a credit to you, feel free to use them on your website or social media. Thanks again. Rebecca & James

I have been meaning to email you for a few days, and the delay is certainly not any indication as to how over the moon we are with the little package that arrived in the mail last Friday! I got home to find it sitting on the counter, and after a long week at work, it was certainly the ‘picker-upper’ that we both needed going into the weekend. From the brown bag, to the beautifully printed photos, to even just how cool the USB stick is, we were excited before we even looked at all of the pictures on the USB. When we got to looking at the pictures, it was such a rush of emotion that came flooding back, because the photos are so emotional, so captivating, and so us. I can’t thank you enough for capturing the essence of the day, the love we have for each other, and the beauty of a corner of the world that has come to mean so much to us. You were such a calming force on a day filled with nerves and emotion, yet, I am having trouble finding the right words for expressing our gratitude for both your physical work (the photos) and your emotional work (your presence).

Thank you so very much for sending through the photos, we really love them and they are a wonderful documentary of the best day of our lives. It was an amazing day and thank you for capturing the emotions and moments of us and our guests as well! We had many guests come up and tell us how gentle you were and how your presence made them feel at ease during the day. It is also wonderful to see so many moments that we missed during the whirlwind of our experiences during the day. Thank you so very much for being there to capture the little things :)
