Kersten and Jonny, who love the outdoors and skiing, chose to have a simple winter wedding close to Jonny's family cabin. The cabin, where Jonny got ready for the ceremony, has been passed down for generations. The plan was to hike about a mile into the backcountry, requiring snow shoes and skiis, and have an intimate ceremony surrounded by trees at approximately 9,000 ft in elevation. The group departed for the ceremony site from the parking lot of Mammoth Mountain base lodge in the early afternoon. What was not planned was the record-breaking winter storm that left several feet of fresh snow.
