2014 Q4 Photography Contest Judges

  • Beautiful pastel colors of flowers, bubbles and dress. Nice detail shot.
  • The extremely narrow focus works exceptionally well to direct our attention to the bouquet. It also makes the bubbles more colorful and compliments the color of the dresses.
  • What can one say about an image as delicately beautiful as this? Not much. But, the use of a long lens, good composition with the natural leading line of the arm to the primary subject, makes for a winning image with a shallow depth of field and that gorgeous smorgasbord of colors.

    • Here's another fun moment that won't be forgotten as a bridesmaid takes her precarious perch on the arm of a chair. But there's more here than meets the eye. The photo works through a combination of leading lines and negative space, the latter framed by the angled ceiling to capture the viewers eyes in a perpetual circle that moves from the bottom of the dress to the top and back again. It's classic photojournalism done well.

    • This shot is brilliant. The bride’s face watching the weather report and seeing the huge swath of rain that’s about to hit her area is great.
    • I found this image very compelling. Although the moment is quiet, you can feel their disappointment and sense the tension. Great storytelling!

    • With vows in hand, the groom celebrates. The joyful, playful mood is underscored by the brightly colored bridesmaids’ dresses. This image captured my imagination.  The grin on the groom's face, along with the raised arms, shows his joy or relief upon finishing his hand-written vows. The laughing bridesmaids, and the bride going about her business, add content to his emotion.  The tent works well to frame the content in this photo and helps guide the viewers eye.

    • Reflections are always worth looking for, but don't always produce results like this. There is a lot going on in this frame which makes it enjoyable to look at, but the look on the bride's face, and the fact that it is the focus of the image, sets it apart from others like it.
