We couldn't have picked a more beautiful or a more apt location for these two passionate mountain hikers. The valley below them stretched to the horizon, including the mountainside where they live. It was extra special that neither of them had been to this location before, so they got to experience it together when reading their letters.

Carrie and Brook got engaged in early 2020 and began to plan a wedding, so they reached out to me about photographing an engagement session for them in the mountains that would reflect their adventurous side: hiking, and lots of it! Partway through the pandemic, they reached back out to me to turn their engagement session into an elopement. We made and remade and rehashed several plans before settling onto one that felt just right - so right. So at dawn, we met up on Boreas Pass, and promptly started walking straight uphill! They carried just the essentials on their backs, and read intimate love letters to each other as the fresh morning light lit up the alpine area. The hike centered them and brought them back to what they love doing together- exploring their beautiful home state of Colorado. We headed back down the pass and met up with a few close friends and family, who cheered as they conducted a casual ceremony surrounded by mountain peaks. Both of their moms took turns officiating the ceremony, and their dogs got up to no good every chance they could. They closed out their day by sharing champagne with everyone and thanking the guests who couldn't make it in person that had instead tuned in on zoom. Their wedding was small, but because it truly reflected their favorite things, it was perfect for this outdoorsy couple.
