Photograph 2759865 was awarded to Rhone (69) , France wedding photographer Emilie Roy for being the best in documentary wedding photography.

"Absolute chaos erupts during the bouquet toss at Domaine des Monts du Lyonnais in Rhône, France, and thankfully the photographer had the instincts to keep shooting. At the center of the frame, one guest sits triumphantly on the ground laughing while clutching the bouquet overhead like a victorious athlete who has survived an unexpectedly violent sporting event. Around her, reactions unfold in every direction at once. Friends reach in to help, others double over laughing, and one woman in a bright red dress appears caught between concern and complete amusement. The brilliance of the image lies in its lack of hierarchy. No single reaction dominates for long because the eye keeps discovering new expressions, gestures, and tiny moments of disbelief around the frame. Even the guests lingering in the background contribute to the storytelling, creating the sense that this ridiculous collapse became the emotional centerpiece of the evening within seconds. Technically, the photographer balances movement and spacing beautifully, allowing the scene to feel spontaneous without collapsing into visual confusion. Weddings spend so much effort orchestrating elegance, but photographs like this endure because they reveal the joyful unpredictability that makes celebrations genuinely human."

The WPJA is pleased to present Rhone (69) , France wedding photographer Emilie Roy with an official Master Piece Award as recognition for exceptional wedding photojournalism at Domaine des Monts du Lyonnais, Rhône.
