3rd place in Great Natural Light
The WPJA contest judges presented Clara Sampaio, a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Beautiful warm light aides this composition.
- Such ambience is worthy of photographic idolatry. But more important to me is the recognition of the skill required to properly balance an exposure in a scene like this. Certainly I’m aware that it is no Olympian feat but, then again, are we are of that? Each of us have faced similar scenes and circumstances where we failed. But it is the technically skilled exposure that has preserved the moment, or should I write, the mood of the moment. But, of course, that also requires all the other fundamentals of composition and lens choice. But, strangely, our goal as photojurnalists/pro photographers is to create an image where we, our efforts behind the lens, are seldom noticed. Think it over as a new benchmark to achieve.
