2nd place in Wildcard Portrait

Wedding photographer Nyuko Chiang, was awarded 2nd place for photo 1841496 in the Wildcard Portrait category for the WPJA's 2016 Q1 Photography Contest.

The WPJA contest judges presented Nyuko Chiang, a Taiwan wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.

The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

  • When you think about portraits of brides and grooms you have an expectation of what you all see, but this image surprised me with the play of light and shadows, highlighting the flowers against the silhouettes of the couple.
  • Great lighting and pop of color. Also, great framing to give us a sense of place.
  • I love the colors here, and the way the bride and groom’s faces are wrapped in shadows, to make the bouquet the focus. Light and shadow play together well in this scene.
