6th place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Matteo Dimiziani, a Italy wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- This is an unusual and funny image, I love the contradiction. This very macho man with the tattoo, muscles, contrasting the older woman, tiny, and fragile. The fingers crossed and expression on the man's face against the calm of the woman. Nice moment, well composed. Too funny.
- All the story-telling elements come together in support of a fun moment as the groom crosses both fingers for luck as he gets a head shave. Other compelling elements in this image are the somewhat dilapidated room and those lovely curlers of his “assistant.” I love the straight-forward approach to a moment that needed only an excellent photographer.
