Wedding photographer Simon Cassanas, was awarded 6th place for photo 1683516 in the Weather category for the WPJA's 2015 Q3 Photography Contest.
- I love a photo like this - capturing the aftermath of what has happened, to tell the story. The low contrast tones, typical of a sunless day, combined with the wet boardwalk, tell us of a wedding “ruined” by rain. I use the word “ruined” because I’ve never seen a wedding day wrecked by rain. It’s not just the contingency plan by wedding planners, but rather the nature of the event that saves the day. Multiple repeating patterns here, framed by doors and the leading line of the boardwalk, make a highly thoughtful composition.
The WPJA contest judges presented Simon Cassanas, a France wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.
