This photograph, taken by Benjamin Brette, was awarded 5th place in the Reflections category for the WPJA's 2015 Q3 Photography Contest.
- I enjoy how this photo uses depth of field and a silhouette to lead our eyes directly to the subject through an almost perfect rule of thirds and some excellent use of leading lines as entry. But, as late night commercials say, “But wait! There’s more!” The second layer of this image mirrors the action of a hand raised to apply makeup. Finally, it was enjoyable seeing the soft “natural” shapes of the three women that gain emphasis when juxtaposed with everything else in the room - all hard-edged geometric lines.
