Wedding photographer Ben Schaefer, was awarded 9th place for photo 1655861 in the Cake Cutting category for the WPJA's 2015 Q2 Photography Contest.
- The horizontal and vertical lines created by the ceiling and door frames helps make this photo successful. Those linear shapes form the perspective needed to understand the precarious scene unfolding just outside the kitchen doors. I also enjoyed the high key lighting of the image, not lacking in a full tonal range that helps highlight the scene with its potential for ruin.
The WPJA contest judges presented Ben Schaefer, a Massachusetts, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.
