4th place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Christobal Perez, a North Carolina, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- This is a great reaction to what was very likely a brief moment. The graphics of the curved pearl string play off the various out of focus elements in the background including the other white tones in the upper right.
- I like that we cannot clearly see the woman in the background. She blends into the shadows, offset by those arms coming out from around her. Furthermore, a pearl necklace is strongly associated with weddings, thus by diminishing facial details it obtains a universal appeal.
