This photograph, taken by Janne Miettinen, was awarded 1st place in the Bouquet/Garter (Action) category for the WPJA's 2010 Q4.
This was quite a difficult shot to get, because there wasn't very much space to do it. I tried to position myself between the bride and the women trying to catch the bouquet. I also used a slow-sync in my flash settings, so that the picture conveys the true feeling of action and the moment. All in all, I am very pleased how it turned out.
- The use of flash blur is very successful here. Every face is focused on the prize. The bold color adds to the intensity of the moment.
- A good use of rear curtain sync flash to shoot the furious surge of capturing the bouquet.
- Strong technique control and great timing in this picture.
