The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

Judges

  • Natural light defines the moment in this photograph. The photographer stepped back and framed it nicely creating several levels to the scene and making an image that is appreciated even if you aren’t a friend or member of this family.
  • This was the most unique image in the contest. It truly defines photojournalism. The composition was executed perfectly with the groom in the center framed by the patient bride and Jesus statue on the floor. Also great use of available light.
  • No offense here, but this image looks like a still from a David Lynch movie. The Jesus figure on the floor, the ruminating bride and the groom making it all official create a wonderfully enigmatic image of a dark and happy day.
