The WPJA contest judges presented Janis Ratnieks, a London, United Kingdom wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.

The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

  • This humorous action shot demonstrates that, when shooting weddings, the only thing that can be expected is the unexpected. We love the ducks flying off in the same direction as the groom! Comical moment – except for the groom I suppose! The reaction of the ducks adds excitement to the photo. Great example of using the environment as a backdrop. The scene of a typical bride/groom portrait got interesting when the groom takes a fall and the photographer doesn’t miss the moment. The brides astonished look, the fleeing mallards and the curious passer-by compliment the image.
