11th place in Other Vendors
The WPJA contest judges presented Douglas Despres, a California, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

Photographer's Comment
This wedding was a blast. The groom was a Hollywood screenwriter that had connections to world-class contortionist dancers at their wedding reception. The artist on his hands here, has been a stunt double in many blockbuster films, and regularly performs around the world for clientele such as Gucchi and Prada. This image got me a call from Brides Magazine publishing headquarters in NYC :) This couple found me through this same WPJA website, and asked me to take zero formals throughout their two day wedding coverage because they loved my documentary style so much. That was a HUGE compliment to me, and with their trust, we captured a wealth of beautiful images.
