Bio: Sam is a photojournalist based in Roanoke, Virginia, who since 1999 has been a staff photographer for the Roanoke Times. He began his career with an education at the University of Montana and has since covered a variety of stories--from Elian Gonzalez saga, to conflict in Afghanistan--for a host of clients, including most every major U.S. news publication. Most recently, he played a foundational role in the Roanoke Times' coverage of the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech. Bio: Lori Epstein began shooting pictures more than 15 years ago, after her father introduced her to his Nikkormat. Lori earned her B.S. in Journalism from Boston University. After four years of globe-trotting while assisting former National Geographic photographer Kevin Fleming, she moved to New York where she worked as a photo editor. After five years in the Big Apple, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she's now working as a photo editor for National Geographic. Bio: I have lived with my wife and three daughters in the Washington, DC area for 14 years. My interest in photography dates back to when I was in high school. I went to college at Penn State University and graduated with a BS in Computer Science. I enjoyed a great career in sales working for IBM and Oracle. In 2001 I decided to do something that I truly loved, photography. I have never looked back. I started working as a freelance photojournalist with The Washington Post back in 2002. While in sales I loved working with people, and to this day I still shoot regularly for The Post because I love meeting and interacting with people. Bio: I've been working in the newspaper industry since 1985. I graduated with a B.A. in Communications from Tulane University; and an M.A. in Journalism from the University of South Carolina College of Journalism. I attended Stanford University's Journalism Institute, spent a semester in the International Studies program at Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland, attended the Stan Kalish Photo Editing Workshops, and The Maine Workshops (Christopher's James-Alternative Processes and Jodi Cobb's (National Geographic)-Photojournalism Workshop.

I interned at the Dayton Daily News (Cox Communications,Inc.) in Dayton, Ohio, was a stringer for The State, Columbia, SC, worked on the staff of The Sun News, Myrtle Beach, SC, and have been at The Roanoke Times for 20 years. I have taught b&w darkroom photography at Hollins University, in Roanoke, Virginia and presently teach (3rd year) Digital Photography at Virginia Western Community College. I freelance for The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and several other media organizations. I photographed a chapter of a theater text for McGraw-Hill, was the photo editor for a state-wide Associated Press series on Prisons that won a Virginia Press Association Award (VPA). I won a VPA award for a story on a man dying of Lou Gehrig's Disease. I won the Dart Journalism Award for coverage of a bi-polar boy who died after injuries sustained at a State Hospital. Recently I won a second place award in the Portrait category in the Atlanta Photojournalism Competition.

Twenty-three images from a series documenting the decaying housing and tenant/landlord issues in Roanoke are in the permanent collection of the Art Museum of Western Virginia. A few photographers whose work has influenced my style include: Jill Freedman, Ralph Gibson, Sebastio Selgado, Sarah Moon, Joyce Tenneyson, William Allard, Alex Webb, Margaret Bourke-White, Edward Weston, and Laurie Smith. I'm married to John Matthew Davis, a furniture designer/builder. We have two children adopted from Russia. I'm a member of the Virginia News Photographers Association(VNPA) and the National News Photographers Association (NPPA).

Bio: I decided on the name Wars to Weddings because, in my 12+ years as a photographer and photojournalist, I've covered everything from wars to weddings. Bio: I have an ongoing interest in Latin America and continue to work on personal projects there.
