Her photography work has been exhibited at Portland galleries and published in the 2005 Alumni Book of Escuela de Imagen.
Bio: In a sea of schooled photographers, I am self taught. My parents were fine art photographers and we wandered on the weekends looking for interesting places. I was surrounded by the images of the times through National Geographic and Life Magazine, which were huge in our 60’s household. My parents were constantly talking about the merits of really fine photographs and they taught me how to see.
Out of school, I worked with the local paper covering art and theatre events, in addition to documenting an entire trades school for their first yearbook. There were 10 years spent moving around the country selfishly shooting for myself, waiting tables and tending bar. I moved to Portland in 1979 where the hobby got interlaced with portrait work and weddings for friends. At 35, I jumped off the cliff into full time photography and haven’t looked back. Weddings have been a big part of my life for 20 years and I still get out of bed on the morning of a wedding very much excited to watch the day unfold. My approach is mostly documentary with a little time set aside for archiving family groups.....I spend most of the day chasing the moments and finding the emotional truths.

Bio: Joanna began shooting at 9 years old when her father gave her an old camera. She went out in the morning and shot the frost on the grass and was hooked. After recieving a BA in Sociology she went on to study fine art photography; there, a teacher referred her to someone inquiring about having their wedding shot by a student, and Joanna's passion for wedding photography was born. She strives to combine art along with fully documenting the wedding day. In addition, she continues to shoot with a variety of black and white film along with digital. Her clients are typically those who appreciate the art of photography, and who are looking for a unique perspective, while maintaining the integrity of the story of their wedding day. It is important to Joanna to shoot her own personal work in order to continue to have a fresh perspective and an intimate relationship with the visual world around her.

Bio: Photography, and particularly photojournalism, has been part of my life's story since I started reading National Geographic as a child. The depth of emotion, and the unyielding truth of photojournalism resonated with me as I grew up, and I began travelling, shooting and most importantly, living. The work of Steve McCurry, Tom Stoddart, James Nachtwey, and many others are a constant inspiration to me. As an English Lit major, I realized, more completely, the power and importance of the story. My passion is to learn and tell peoples' stories.
