FOURTH PLACE: Photo by Sean Flanigan / Washington
This is a wedding photo of bride and groom leaving a church with the crowd holding sparklers.

JUDGES COMMENTS: The beauty of a canopy of sparklers formed by arms thrusting out from each side of the walkway is only one of the things that make this photo successful. The tilt of the newlyweds' bodies, particularly the groom's raised arm, fortuitously mirrors the angle of the arms past which they run. And many of the sparklers, though in their brightness the detail is lost, echo the shape of the bride's bouquet. And perhaps more important than these small details is simply the beautiful light and sheer energy the photo has captured.

I like the way the bride and groom are framed by their friends, families and sparklers and the amused face of the woman at the church door, as she admires the unabashed glee of the newly-married couple. Just a feel-good action shot.
