Emma Rose has had a life-long desire to capture the beauty in people, their surroundings and their emotions. What started as an exploration of all different types of artistic medium, including watercolour, acrylics, charcoal and pastel, turned to a more immediate capturing of people on photographic film in about 1997. Emma started photographing weddings in 1999 in Vancouver, and was immediately drawn to them as a venue for capturing people at their best and at a turning point in their lives.
When she moved back to Halifax in 2002 she started what may have been the first photojournalistic wedding photography business in the city and quickly carved a niche amongst more traditional portrait photographers. When clients cried while looking at their wedding photographs, Emma knew there was something special in the way she captured weddings, and that continues to give her the energy to push the limits of creativity at each wedding. With just one photography and darkroom course under her belt and a handful of art classes, Emma is primarily self-taught in composition, technical elements and lighting with years of studying and appreciating all types of art.
