I believe that strong, storytelling wedding photography enhances the entire wedding experience. My passion for capturing for well-lit, emotional moments dates back to the first time I snapped a photo in a 5th grade photography class in 1985.
I was driven to grow as a person by documenting community leaders and events. I earned a BSJ, cum laude, from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism in 1996. I followed that up with a successful editorial photography career including 12 years in newspapers. I still photograph many sporting events, most notably the Tar Heels and Blue Devils in ACC basketball.
After hiring a National Geographic photographer for my wedding in 2004, I began creating storytelling images for wedding clients of my own. It is a rush to create beautiful, artful, storytelling images that are truly priceless to each client. That rush comes with a lot of pressure.
As a photojournalist, I believe that it is the approach that creates award-winning photography. Getting to know the client, doing one's due diligence to work with the other vendors to predict moments, and gaining access to a family's inner circle all build trust. When the bride and groom feel like they can relive the event from their perspective but remark, " I don't remember you being that close," that's rewarding.
