Having always gravitated towards photographing people since her high school days with a trusty old 4x5 SuperGraflex in hand, Tara naturally leaned towards wedding photography. The combination of interacting with people, making them happy, and providing a photographic time capsule of an important event is what sparked her passion for wedding photojournalism. Tara takes the time to get to know each and every couple before the big day, always including an Engagement Session to get on a personal level and make sure everyone is comfortable on the actual wedding day. Her approach is simple: get to know the couple, find out what they want, and deliver photographs that will timelessly capture the moment while keeping the bride and groom relaxed. This simple philosophy has led Tara to photograph hundreds of weddings over 12 years, and has taken her everywhere from her Bay Area-based backyard—the vineyards of Napa to the fog-filled hills of San Francisco and many tropical destinations.
Known for her vibrant, photojournalistic, “How and when did you capture that?” shots, Tara has a knack for finding the unique angle, lighting, and moment, that few other photographers could ever find. Not only concentrating on the people, Tara is inspired by using light, negative space, and the environment where all these emotions are running high to work with the people. Her goal is to “show insight to the personality [of a person] by using the space (or lack thereof) surrounding the person.”
Tara’s talent as a wedding photographer has not only impressed brides and grooms for over 12 years, but has garnered attention from a number of reputable print publications in the wedding industry. She has photographed multiple covers of Today’s Bride magazine and her weddings have been featured in Modern Bridal magazine and Your Wedding Day magazine. Her exquisite knowledge of angles and use of light has made her a sought-after photographer for events, interior photography, and portraits including San Francisco’s Dining by Design (featured in California Home+Design magazine) and 7x7 Magazine.
Tara, her husband Travis, and their family (two cats and seven chickens) currently reside in Moss Beach, CA. In addition to her 15 (max) weddings per year, she is currently working with the Flag Foundation – an international network of sanctuary ranches that foster horse/human partnership. Her photographic documentation will be presented this year at the Napa Valley Film Festival.
