I have always had a passion for photography. When I was a "rug rat", dad used to send my brother and I into the closet to look directly at his flash and fire the camera. This could be the reason I require glasses but who really knows. We used to have chocolate popcorn and movie night in our living room. Mom & dad would pull out the slide projector and we would look at stills up on the wall. Many years later we got a carousel for the slides and then we would use the wired remote! I still remember how excited we would get when he would come home with a new case of 35mm slides in a box. We would sit around looking at the cut out negative film surrounded by a white cardboard square holding it up to the kitchen light or go over to the window to view them. How times have changed!
Throughout my entire life I had always had a camera but never really used it extensively until I moved away from Winnipeg. I think I was the pioneers of the "blog" and we still have our family blog up and running since 2002! The pictures and memories in those archives are priceless. This is when I really started to take pictures heavily. I can look back at my own records and see weekly chronicles of what happened. Mind you it cost me quite a few cameras as they tend to get dropped, lost or taken into the pool or ocean unexpectedly!
In 2008 I decided to make a career change. I had spent the last 10 years working in the I.T. industry and found myself as a computer consultant for an Oil & Gas company in Calgary. The decision had come to change careers and head to Mexico to start a wedding photography company. I felt my life starting all over again!
I made plans to get the company started and looked for a place to live. I also worked on my own photography skills, taking classes and capturing more and more pictures. I spent time job shadowing other photographers and finally starting to shoot weddings! It all seemed so surreal and happening so fast. The plan was to move to Mexico in 2010. Things became fast tracked as the website had generated 30 bookings in Mexico before even making the move. A quick garage sale was scheduled and I sold everything for a dime on the dollar. Traded in the BMW and Ducati for a 97 Astro Van and in March of 2009, was headed south!
All that being said, I have not looked back since! Life has been very good to me again down here in Playa del Carmen Mexico. Business continues to be fantastic and I continue to strive to become a better and better photographer with every shoot. I love meeting new people from around the world and having the privilege of recording their day!,
