At the end of the day, a photographer is a storyteller, and every piece of his kit: camera, lights, film, hard drive, darkroom, computer, etc. must serve the client's story. That's jon’s approach to photography. His studio and travel gear is, of course, outfitted with state-of-the-art digital equipment, and he and his team are highly skilled in digital work. But, it's important to keep in mind that jon is typically shooting for a select clientele, most of whom want a classic filmic look.
Many of these clients collect jon’s own personal work, as well as photographs, paintings, and such by other artists. These folks have individual artistic tastes, high expectations, and are often drawn to him, in part, because of his deep roots in classic materials: silver gelatin black & white prints, large format film, and all the other darkroom mysteries that many of today’s pure-digital shooters have never touched. Consequently, nearly every session he shoots includes some of the same materials and techniques that Avedon, Walker Evans, Ansel Adams, or Henri Cartier-Bresson would have used.
After finishing his MFA in Photography at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) in 1995, jon moved back to his hometown of Greenwood, SC to set up shop and make a name for himself in Photography. That's been his passion and focus since then. Greenwood is a great place to live, and he and his family are surrounded by the natural beauty that they love so much. At the same time, he loves to travel, and jon’s photography takes him literally all over the world.
