My professional years began more than 25 years ago as a freelance assignment newspaper photojournalist taking every middle of the night, out of the way, news story that came across the scanner. This led to a staff position and a number of years spent running the photo department for the numerous newspapers owned by the late Malcolm Forbes.
Some of those 25 years were spent honing my expertise as a digital imaging expert and becoming certified as such by ADOBE SYSTEMS. I applied that knowledge to professional image editing and teaching college level DIgital Imaging. Read More...

I am always looking for an "environmental" anchor for a portrait, in the sense of an appropriate, natural or existing setting. After a day of photographing this couple at beautiful Mohonk Mountain House we happened upon this couch and the old early American portrait on the wall. This setting was missing one ingredient, our couple. We accommodated. It evoked an "American Gothic" style portrait. It is important to keep the lighting properly balanced when mixing flash and ambient.

The ceremony started late, dark clouds were rolling in, and it started to rain. I always bring a few spare umbrellas and back up equipment in case the unexpected happened. The payoff was that the couple in the center of the image weren't prepared, but were surrounded by those guests who were. That made the photo.
