There are those rare moments when you know the truth of something because you see it clearly for the first time. Cartier-Bresson called... the "decisive moment" when a photograph suddenly reveals itself to you. That moment came to me at a wedding. As I put down my glass of champagne and picked up my brother's camera, I saw the simple truth: two people joining together with families and friends to celebrate a beginning, a next step, a new life. I'm Daniel Stark, a documentary wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. Starting in high school, I knew that photography was something special. And as a photojournalist for my college newspaper, it became a real passion as I learned how to frame and find the images that meant the most to me. But once I realized that photojournalism at its best and most meaningful is about real people at life's most important moments, it became a career. I see wedding photography as simply capturing a love story through the lens, documenting a new life, revealing those "decisive moments." Some of my work has been featured in National Geographic Magazine online as well as a number of regional publications. Weddings have even taken me abroad––the best of all worlds since I love travel and culture. I also break dance with my twin brother once in awhile. And I have the photos to prove it.Read More

My name is Brandon and I own and am the principal photographer for FotoVitae. I started FotoVitae in 2006 and specialize in wedding...d engagement photography. Personally, I shoot between 25-35 weddings per year. While I'm based outside of Portland, OR, I shoot throughout the Pacific NW and Alaska. Of course, I'm also open to travel for destination weddings around the country and world.
My interest in photography started in high school and I eventually ended up studying photography in Johannesburg, South Africa; focusing on wildlife photography at the time. I've since realized that interacting with people is what makes the job great and I can truly say that I love what I do. Aside from studying photography, I also recieved my bacholors degree in business administration from the University of Oregon. I focused on entrepreneurship which has been an incredible asset as a small business owner.
While I was in Eugene for those 4 years, I met my future wife and we eventually married in August of 2006. Sunshine & I were married at a small cabin we built in Yaak, Montana and that's where we spend most of our free time and where I still take time to capture wildlife.
Last year Sunshine and I started our family and we now have beautiful twin boys, Abdur & Nursun. Fatherhood is a lot of work but an incredible adventure. I should also mention our furry children Kootenai (our cat) & Zulu (our Doberman).

I got my start in photography during a year-long college exchange program in Japan. It was there that I discovered the power photographs...ve to let you relive moments and emotions associated with those moments. Upon my return to the US, I started formally studying photojournalism and freelancing for newspapers. It wasn't until a friend of a friend asked me to shoot their wedding that I realized how perfect an opportunity weddings were for me to not only pursue my passion for photojournalism but also allow my clients to relive the moments from their weddings through the photographs I capture. I soon started shooting weddings full-time, and over the next 5 years I developed into a regularly sought out photographer on the national and international level.
My greatest passion besides photojournalism is traveling, which probably explains why my favorite weddings to document are ones with strong multicultural influences. I like working with adventurous and worldly couples, especially ones with family visiting from overseas. I am located dually in Hawaii and Oregon and when I'm not busy flying to the next wedding location, I can be found hiking, cooking Italian food, and playing ultimate frisbee. I am also passionate about karate have been practicing martial arts almost half my life.Read More

I cut my teeth as a photographer by creating a number of photo-essay books, including two published by Simon & Schuster. The first... these, "Eagle Drum," follows a Native American boy dancing in powwows. The second, "Let's Rodeo," covers young rodeo riders in the Pacific Northwest. At the time, running from bulls in the rodeo arena or photographing traditional Indian dancers in their full regalia, I remember thinking, why would anyone ever want to be a wedding photographer? Fortunately, I learned of wedding photojournalism, and learned what a pleasure it is to learn that one could actually shoot a wedding as though it were a powwow or a rodeo -- that is, with an eye for action and color and capturing the telling moments.Read More
I grew up carrying around a camera wearing rainbow suspenders and cowgirl boots. I have come a long way since but I find it curiously...sightful that I somehow knew then what I should be doing with my life. I respect the art of photography for this significance but I also find it freeing and natural.
I was one of those high school yearbook photographers that lurked under the stairs to find a unique image. I grew wings in college and began my post-collegiate career doing work in the field of psychology. At the time photography was my hobby and studying the way people made decisions was my vocation. After years of research and feeling starved for more creativity, I returned to school for a dedicated photographic education. In 2005 I attended the Brooks Institute of Photography and haven't looked back since.
I operate my business out of my home in Portland, Oregon, but I have spent years in California and love documenting stories there as well. I will travel to any state in the US and actually travel more often than I stay local these days. When I am not photographing weddings I love documenting state fairs and other iconic American celebrations. I am also an avid swimmer, cyclist, runner, triathlete, all-around outdoors-person and most recently a break-dancer. Read More
