My professional years began more than 25 years ago as a freelance assignment newspaper photojournalist taking every middle of the night...ut of the way, news story that came across the scanner. This led to a staff position and a number of years spent running the photo department for the numerous newspapers owned by the late Malcolm Forbes.
Some of those 25 years were spent honing my expertise as a digital imaging expert and becoming certified as such by ADOBE SYSTEMS. I applied that knowledge to professional image editing and teaching college level DIgital Imaging.
My award-winning newspaper experience has been beneficial in my current specialty as a full time wedding photojournalist. My photography career has been spent documenting moments to create evocative images that tell a story.
Wedding Photojournalism isn't so different. It's about capturing the story of your Wedding Day.
Applying my photojournalism skills to wedding and events produces relaxed images that capture real smiles, real moments, real stories - because life isn't posed! Using this approach means the photographer is not running your day... You actually get to just live your wedding as it unfolds, rather than being directed in every moment just for the camera. Even my approach to family group shots tends to be more casual, so the people being photographed are more relaxed and have more fun while they are being photographed.
I am a proud member of several professional photography associations, including WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International), PPA (Professional Photographers Association), and WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association). My work was featured in a WPJA article - you can read it here: Rainy Wedding Day Parade
I have several photojournalism awards and 4 International Wedding Photography awards from the WPJA.

1. I must tell you how wonderful your site has been for my business. It is truly helping me find the "right" kind of clients. They are looking for a truer form of
wedding photojournalism, and that in turn is helping me be freer in my work. Thank you for all your hard work, and please let me know if I can ever be of any assistance.
2. It's just amazing how much energy you put into WPJA. I can't tell you how much I admire what you are doing to raise the bar for Wedding Photojournalism. You are helping
define what it really is and what it should be.
1. Let me take a moment to thank you for the honor of being included in the WedPix article, "RAINY WEDDING DAY PARADE". It was a terrific boon for my business and WPJA continues to guide the most educated brides to me.
Sincerely,
2. My most informed referrals come from the WPJA. When I receive an inquiry from a bride who found me through WPJA I am confident that she not only knows what she wants and expects but also has a respect for what photojournalism is.
I'm grateful for your commitment to maintaining your standards and to providing quality articles for not just your members but for the bride and groom as well through WedPix.
I'm in good company here.
Thanks!
Jeff Tarantino, NEW JERSEY
TOM SPADER, NJ
1. I'm actually impressed with the amount of inquiries I've gotten from the WPJA listing. On a forum I was told not to expect too much from my membership other than networking and contests. But I've had at least 15 inquiries and 10 bookings in the year I've been a member.
2. I know that when someone has found me through "our" organization they know where I'm coming from and I know what they are looking for. It really helps with the first ten minutes of the initial conversation. When the couple, usually the bride, says she found me on the WPJA, we know we are artistically on the same page and can get right down to business. I am still a full time newspaper photographer and have changed my schedule at the paper to be available for weddings Friday through Sunday. I shoot journalistically every day of the week and need not change my style on the weekends. Being able to translate my 20+ years in PJ into the wedding world has been more rewarding than I thought it would be. With the WPJA behind me I know my craft need not be compromised or more importantly, defended while meeting with a couple because they found me by searching the WPJA site. Thank you for providing this service for us and "them."

Becoming a member of the WPJA was a personal goal. I was referred to the organization by a bride who mentioned our style was just what they represented. I'm very thankful to be a part of the organization and hope to continue to strive toward the standards the WPJA represents.
I also spread the word about being a member to my clients and let each client know about the organization as well to better show our work and business is represented by more than just an advertised site.

New Jersey is divided up geographically into four main land areas, the New England Upland, the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the Piedmont and the Appalachian Ridge and Valley Region. Covering the southern half of the state with rolling hills, the Atlantic Coastal Plain consists of lush forests, which sets the stage for beautiful landscapes, making for superb wedding photograph opportunities. Along the coastal region of this area, you will find resorts and beaches in areas like Atlantic City that present memorable wedding locations for you and can offer attractions and entertainment for your whole wedding party to enjoy. At the top 20% of the state lies the Piedmont region, which includes the industrialized cities that include Jersey City, Newark, Patterson and Elizabeth and also contain New Jersey's rivers, the Hudson River, Passaic River, Remapo River and the Raritan River. This presents your wedding photojournalist with an endless supply of wedding photography opportunities as you indulge in a classy urban-style wedding celebration. With many beautiful lakes tucked in the flat-topped ridges of New Jersey lies the New England Upland, which many times is known as the Highlands and is located west of the Piedmont. These areas of hills and water present unique and breathtaking locations for wedding photographs. In the Appalachian Ridge and Valley Region in the northwest corner of New Jersey, you will find the gorgeous Kittatinny Mountains and the Delaware River, which provide countless wedding photograph locations and brilliant wedding pictures.
Some of the best New Jersey fine art wedding photographers are now just a click away through the Artistic Guild of the WPJA!
