Bio: I started taking professional pictures twenty years ago. After attending Art College I developed a style that began a trademark look - simple photographs with a few very strong
compositional elements. Moving into press work, I started to get experience in dealing with people in pictures and then came the lateral step into reportage style wedding photography. I never got
involved in the traditional approach to wedding photography but chose instead to watch how weddings unfolded. This then completed the transformation and I now do what my father did for most of his
career (until his eyesight got so bad that he had to give it up).
Over the years I have collected numerous awards for my press photography and I still shoot for national and international titles as well as shooting 50-60 weddings per year. I have also had work
exhibited in the Royal Ulster Society exhibition and had a few of my own exhibitions. I have also recently completed a house and business move out of the city to live in the country with my wife and
two young girls.
Since joning the WPJA just over a year ago I have had three bookings as a result, one from Canada, one from the US and another one locally here in Northern Ireland who stumbled across the WPJA site. All the couples stated that the fact that I was a member of the WPJA swayed their decision making and
made them eventually opt for me.
If you choose one of our WPJA Northern Ireland wedding photojournalists as your wedding photographer, please let them know you found them through the Wedding Photojournalist
Association.
The WPJA at a glance: The Wedding Photojournalist Association puts the best Northern Ireland wedding photographers at your fingertips, by granting membership only to the most talented
professional wedding photographers in the world--photographers who focus solely on using their documentary photography skills to capture the moments of your wedding day.
The Artistic Guild of the WPJA puts some of the best fine art wedding photographers at your fingertips! The AG takes the world-renowned artistic approach of WPJA wedding photojournalists to yet another level through post-production processing (usually Photoshop). AGWPJA photographers define artistic wedding photography!
The WPJA is proud to launch the first annual Trash The Dress photography contest specifically designed to recognize the exceptional talent of our esteemed members.
Trash The Dress (TTD) competition entries are created after the ceremony with primary direction provided by the photographer. Entries are judged on creativity, technical proficiency, composition and lighting.
Gritty, romantic and uniquely sexy, TTD photo shoots challenge the photographer’s creativity, imagination and technical aptitude. Enjoyed by thousands of brides and couples worldwide, these on-location photo sessions commemorate the wedding and cherished gown within a glamorous, frivolous and often lively post-nuptial portfolio. TTD sessions meld formal wedding attire within unconventional settings. For example, sessions are frequently held on sandy beaches, amidst crashing ocean waves, at rustic farms, on playgrounds or in urban settings.
After the nuptials but before it’s boxed, the wedding gown is taken to a completely new level during a Trash The Dress session. We invite members to exhibit their creativity through our newest competition. Submit your entries by Friday, September 19th, 2008 in our exciting, first annual TTD competition!
BRIDES MAGAZINE & the Wedding Photojournalist Association proudly present a Wedding Photojournalism Contest.
The WPJA/BRIDES Wedding Photojournalism Contest spotlights the finest images from the best wedding photojournalists on the pages of one of the most world-renowned wedding publications and the web sites of the WPJA and BRIDES.
For most brides and grooms, wedding photojournalism is no longer a trendy alternative to traditional wedding day photo-coverage; rather, it is mainstream wedding photography. The WPJA has been leading the way in promoting and rewarding photographers who excel in capturing the un-styled and un-scripted moments of the wedding day. More and more couples are seeking out the top wedding photojournalists in the world through the WPJA web site.
