for Visual Arts inaugurated last February, in Catania, in an 18th century palazzo close to Palazzo Biscari.
Narrative and poetic capacity has become the dominant theme of his work. A quality that is particularly appreciated in the ambit of Ceremonial Photography. A professionalism which has been well awarded in exhibitions and competitions at both a national and European level. The project created in the southeast area of Sicily dates back to the Eighties, a cultural centre of Visual Arts, where he has set up a professional situation of didactics and research, an existential desire that Carpenzano had cultivated even when there were many temptations and opportunities to
live as a photographer in Milan. The images – icon of the wedding day – of the exhibition “a special day” presented last March at the International Foundation of Photography in Orvieto, impress for the abstract and objective value of the wedding, photographs which are able to maintain autonomy of vision when extrapolated from the events of the day. Over time, his narrative and emotional style has gone further, maturing a photographic language made of abstraction and symbolism, which has evolved in parallel to the capacity for narrating a real day, elevating it into something else, something special. His ability to hide the silent presence of the photographer behind objects of daily use, the extraordinary sensitivity for finding inspiration in the multiple occasions that reality suggests links the research by Emanuele Carpenzano with the current trends of Wedding Photo journalism and the more experimental one of the Marriage intended as a creative photographic workshop.
