1st place in Silhouettes and Shadows
The WPJA contest judges presented Erin Chrisman, a South Carolina, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- The photographer had the right idea to expose for the light spilling across the curtain and then wait for the right moment when the pencil and that lovely profile were in the right position. However, the best part of the image is the result of the man at left watching the scene. He adds a layer of intrigue to the image that takes the moment from being just another interesting silhouette to an image that creates wonder.
- Everything comes together for a great photo-the composition, the body language and especially the colors. This silhouette photo oozes atmosphere!
- A great use of color and silhouette is used by the photographer to create this stunning image of a common scene on a wedding day. Each descending silhouette adds layers of information and interest leading us to the bride. Nicely done.
